D&D General Charisma Checks gone Horribly Wrong - Can you Relate?

What I'm looking for is not 'the player does the thing the PC is trying to do' but 'the player describes evocatively the thing the PC is trying to do'. So in a social conflict situation I'm not asking the player to really intimidate or persuade me, but to give enough of a sense of the scene...

What is your "deep" reading of a song with "dumb" lyrics?

Not dumb, but opaque: New Order's Blue Monday is about how Bernard Sumner feels about Ian Curtis's death and taking over vocal duties from him.

Where do you think he went to after that smash hit song? Beamed right up.

D&D General Charisma Checks gone Horribly Wrong - Can you Relate?

I'd rather just have a fun and engaging game. If the only way to accommodate people who literally cannot pretend to have a conversation is to reduce all game play to dice rolls, I am happy just to not play with such people. Don't play bad systems, I agree. But yes a good performance should aid...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

You have to add extra admonitions to the effect of 'yes we really mean this bit' and 'no don't do this other thing, really'. This extra baggage can make...

D&D General Charisma Checks gone Horribly Wrong - Can you Relate?

Well, in one of those games you have an engagingly roleplayed scene, and in the other you have a mumbled statement of intent and a dice roll. I know which table I'd rather sit at.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

For my high level 5e character I had to create my own 'cheat sheet' character sheet because I had so many fiddly little options from L12+ it was difficult to keep track of otherwise. Part of the issue is also that the PHB is very badly laid out.

I like your bossiness, I can see how you came to run a billion dollar company. I've never seen even a second of Critical Role or any other podcast game. PS I think you messed up the quotes, you have me saying what you said. Easily done, multiquoting is weird.
