I recently sat down and ran my annual spending subs ended up accounting for 20% of my annual net income.
You do not own anything with subs and when I analyzed my usage per cost, it was scary how much I was over charging myself.
I could have purchased most of the things from the subs at a...
It is a hidden expense for many. Software, streaming, game passes, kindle services, phones….
It is draining wealth at an alarming rate.
Other costs are killing too but I am alarmed by how many items have moved to buy one time to subs.
That may be self-selection. I was really disappointed recently when I thought folks may return to CM but several took one look and made the judgement call that they do not want to associate with folks that they used to hangout and game with even if they did not like their opinions in other...
Maybe....the subscriptions are quickly destroying people's budgets. I was one of the first to advocate monthly subs to ENW and CM but the effect of subs has not been....good.
They act as a primer for the players and a way for them to think about interacting with the world.
Bastions, in a sense, do support sandbox play. They give the players something outside of the DM prepped adventure to do. I think you can argue that Bastions is meant to expand and support sandbox...
There used to be a lot more across the older editions to support this as regular play such a hirelings and level titles. I think that assisted in getting players to think in terms of what they can do outside of their character alone.
This changed with 3e and has continued to slide.
I find it...
Well, the point of the thread seems to be "don't let Hasbro affect whether you play 5e."
Hasbro's actions only affect whether I play 5e when considering content. For instance, I will continue to play 5.0. I will not adopt 5.5. So WOTC's design decisions affect whether I play their current...
I am tired of the term "misinformation" just as I got tired of the term "my truth" and it is often the same people using the terms.
Two people often often draw different conclusions from the same facts or view events through different lens or experiences. People can watch the same live video...
I also use ley lines and magic nodes in my setting. (a bit like valdemar)
Arcane casters can tap those at higher levels or attune to them in some cases if they accept the risks. They have to be in range to use them.
Finally, I yanked the astral/ethereal and Wyrd system from Deverry.
I am...
There are no rules around who can become a wizard or sorc other than some rules around stats. Of course, those rules are for the players.
The DMG remains silent on this one for NPCs so I follow the all powers not designated to the rules are awarded to the DM philosophy.
My current campaign is my version of the Bronze Age collapse. The southern civs were just destroyed by a volcanic eruption, tsunami and 9.7 quake.
The campaign started far to the north after a year of winter and no one knows what caused it yet but the area is getting attacked by pirates and...
It makes perfect sense. You have to be able to manipulate magic before you can be trained. Every one of my worlds require someone to have Spark or Talent.
The same goes for clerics and paladins who must be blessed by divinity.
Casters are rare in my worlds. Many may have talent and are never...
I am pretty sure Backerkit eats fewer dollars and most people have to use it to manage the after process anyway.
Others like Monte Cook and Goodman have switched.
Alternatively, new GMs should not run sandbox campaigns. They should get their feet wet by running modules and discovering how to run a session and learning their own style.
I can see why the DMG focused on new DMs would push them into the best path to learn how to be a DM
