    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

You're STILL missing the point. Yes, being a fish out of water character is perfectly viable. Having a character from parts unknown is perfectly fine. It should not be the default for a PHB option. It should not be the ONLY option for a PHB option. Again, name a dragonborn community in the...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I imagine that you weren't born several months travel from London. I could be wrong, but, just guessing here.

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

Yeah, I've tried that. And then every player comes forward and wants to play a "secret" elf or a Tiefling. The second I try to put any limitations, that's EXACTLY what people want to play. Next campaign, I'm banning fighters just to see what the players do. :D

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Let's see if I can use some personal anecdotes to get my point across better. Some time ago, I was a player in a Hoard of the Dragon Queen campaign. So, I made a dragonborn character, thinking that, well, in that campaign, that would make quite a lot of sense. So, I did my due diligence as a...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I assume that those two are from Rime of the Frostmaiden? I really need to pick that up sometime. It looks like it does cover some of the missing bits. Although, that does make it somewhat tricky for my Goliath to be in Baldur's Gate. And it does rather nicely dovetail with my point that if...

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

And, as far as this being new, I remember minotaur characters, ogre characters, and various other weirdness from way back in the day. Heck, even as a player in 1ed, I remember commenting that my character was typically the only human in the group of elves, dwarves, and a couple of other oddball...

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

At the end of the day, this is pretty much what you have to do. I used to bemoan the "circus troupe" group. It annoyed the crap out of me. Now? I just shrug. The player simply do not care about your setting. Full stop. They will never, ever care enough about "setting" to stop trying to...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Of course it is. Why would you think that I am arguing any differently? I really get the feeling that people are talking completely at cross purposes. My point is that despite a decade of being one of the most popular player options in D&D, we still have zero background for either Tieflings...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Thus my confusion. He's not referencing anything I'm actually talking about and his concerns have nothing to do with the conversation at hand. 🤷 As far as dragonborn in Candlekeep, again, it's so frustrating talking about this stuff with people who obviously have never actually run these...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I'm sorry. I honestly have no idea how to parse this. This is in now way actually related to anything I said. I really have no idea what you are trying to say here. I'm saying that every D&D setting is based on the PHB. When you look at communities where the PC's are likely to either...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

And yet, every single D&D setting does EXACTLY that. Oh, look, Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, on and on... we have a majority of humans, then elves, then dwarves, then halfings and gnomes. Gee, almost directly pulled from the PHB. Yup, you have the odd "monstrous" states like Pomarj...

D&D 5E (2024) GMs: How long should it usually take to go from level 1 to 4?

That's largely been my experience too. Funnily enough, that is exactly the same pace regardless of edition. Level 1 and 2 might be a bit quicker but, after that, yup, 6 sessions to a level has been my experience.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

You are, of course, absolutely right, @Maxperson. Now, can we get back to the actual interesting topic of what a 2024 D&D setting should look like?

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Well, other than the fact that the designers were basing the design of the setting to showcase 3.5 edition, but, sure? I guess their own words means they entirely failed at their own design goals. 🤷

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Yes, @Maxperson, you are absolutely right. Good job. Now, can we get back to the actual topic at hand? Back to the idea of what a 2024 Setting would look like?

To be fair, that was the stated design goal of Eberron.

D&D 5E (2024) GMs: How long should it usually take to go from level 1 to 4?

As I play on VTT, it might impact speed. And our sessions tend to be a bit less than 3 hours. I'm saying 9 session to level 4. 2 to get to level 2, 3 to get to level 3 and 4 to get to level four and generally four sessions per level after that. Give or take of course. It could be 8...

You might want to reread your AD&D DMG before making that claim.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

How do you cast wish at 17th level? That's a 9th level spell. You need to be 18th level.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Actually, no you couldn't. It would take at least 9 hours of study to rememorize wish. Plus 8 hours of rest. Plus, if you use Wish, other than to bring back dead PC's or escape danger, it cost you 2-8 days of bed rest. So, no, you actually couldn't. To bring back a single point of Con...
