I like the conditions system based on a read through. It gives a different take on attrition without being just depleted hit points or spell slots. One of the limitations of Savage Worlds is that there aren’t many tools for attrition over the course of a game arc. One of the options is Fatigue...

It's been so long since the last GURPS edition, that the present day is now in the "future" tech level

Your impression is correct! 🙂 SJ’s previous game was The Fantasy Trip, a dedicated fantasy RPG with just three stats (Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence). That system built off two arena combat games he had already created - Melee and Wizard. Melee originally just had ST and DX as stats. You...

Am I using the right system?

We’ve been playing a Forgotten Realms game for over a year which converted from 5e to Savage Pathfinder as our GM got a bit tired of 5e monsters in particular. It’s great fun. One of the subtle differences between Savage Worlds and D&D in general is that D&D has a resource attrition model...

Am I using the right system?

Have you seen Savage Pathfinder? It has class edges which being in aspects of D&D niches, while retaining all Savage Worlds tools (things like chases, mass combat, dramatic tasks). It has base fear rules in the core, and expanded fear rules in the Horror Companion if you want more emphasis on...

Having started reading the rules, the reason lowest wins is because of how Boons work in the system. Having a boon will reduce your roll so lowest roll needs to be best.

@Aldarc - I am, by default, a person who loves genre-flexible systems. Savage Worlds is my favourite these days, as it brings a pulp feel to games I run and that is great for 90% of my needs. But I do like gritty fantasy. Savage Worlds can do that, but a tailored system which hits my key wants...

What TTRPG Is Perfect and Complete In One Volume?

In the Cypher system most monsters are defined by a single number from one to 10. You might embellish that and say that a specific monster is nominally a 3 but attacks as if a 5. I personally found that a bit thin, but it can work.

    New generic contemporary/urban fantasy?

How about Buffy, Angel, and / or Witchcraft? They are also by Eden Studios like AFMBE.

    New generic contemporary/urban fantasy?

Just to check, when you say you have checked out Fate, have you checked out The Dresden Files specifically? It’s a tightly designed urban fantasy implementation in my opinion.

Are there any Alien Invasion RPGs/Settings

There is an official Savage Worlds implementation of Rifts, if that makes a difference for you. Necessary Evil is a variation on this, in that it’s a supers world featuring an alien invasion. Other than that I’m struggling to find an example of alien invasion for Savage Worlds, but that would...

There are some WFRP 3e core sets on eBay at the moment.

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

I have another suggestion for you Retreater, through unfortunately it’s probably impossible to implement. A peer to 4E D&D is WFRP 3e. It wasn’t massively popular at the time, but it’s my personal favourite of the lineage that goes WFRP > Star Wars > Genesis. The reason it comes to mind is that...

What bespoke RPG is actually really good for other types of campaigns?

The Pelgrane Press Dying Earth? It was reinterpreted as Skulduggery after they lost the license, and one of the included themes is politics.

    My "Savage" Experience

One of the nice things about the system, for me, is that the flow of bennies is a mechanism for influencing how pulp / gritty the game feels in play, and you can do it on the fly. You can set a feel for a particular campaign by being more or less generous as a baseline, then up that if the...
