I was thinking this when reading some of the other posts. I have players that are now focused on the monsters and not listening when I tell them about the high ceiling with the shadowy alcoves. Then when spiders jump down, they are all- what the heck, you never told us that.

Time crunch? Should it all take place in one day, or each dungeon needs to be completed in one day. Might depend on length of plot and size of adventure. Smaller dungeons or larger? I'm more a 5-room person since my group only gets to play for a few hours at a time. A larger dungeon might...

I always thought this was the gold standard. 4e Dungeon Delve with its short adventures that had a map and each encounter on a page with statblocks to prevent the need to go anyplace else. They were short and minor quests, but the layout was great for me.

A bit like politics, in that there are examples found at both ends, but most are in the middle someplace. I find more use from short adventures that are easy to drop into my existing campaign. This means that I do not need much backstory on why the dungeon is there or who built it 1,000...

The good ol' quest for monster parts. 2e had some things for making magic items and boosting effects by using certain monster parts. Displacer Beast hide for cloak of displacing. This kind of thing.
