Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Heroes on the Borderlands Review

Eh, don't know why they just didn't go with Caltrops. As for the Ale prices, this place is on the Borderlands, so perhaps its more expensive here. It's not cheap to get this stuff into the Keep safely with all the banditry around or it being "confiscated" by the guards upon arrival!

D&D General Monster Importance in Homebrews?

Both. As @Edgar Ironpelt states, there might be some important to the formation of the world (such as in my "Dragons Must Die" campaign), or may come as custom creations borne out of play or just wanting something that fits the world (Like the Maughtley - dwarves who became minotaurs due to...

    D&D General Hero's Diary - Digital D&D Character Sheet

Just went and played with it - I definitely like the looks of it. Also, so glad it has a dark mode off the bat! If you don't mind, a few screen shots from a test character (using 2014 rules)...

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

I watched an in-depth unboxing that even went over the contents of the module (include differences with the original). You could scrap the premades and character "placemats" and it would still work - it would just then have components that I'd wished I had back in 198X with battlemats and...

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

I would be curious on that. HeroQuest made $3,707,249 gross alone on preorders - that's nothing to sneeze at, not counting after sales or add-ons. At the mythic tier, that would have been at least 24,719 copies. Heroes of the Borderlands would have to sell 74,144 copies to match the dollar...

D&D 5E (2014) Best third party campaign books - recommend me some

I'm fond of B4 - The Lost City. Goodman Games treatment for 5E is really good as it not only includes the original B/X version, it expands and fills in the unfinished areas as well. From my understanding, it is a mini-campaign based on Robert E. Howard's Red Nails Conan story.

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Nah, needs to be Isle of Dread, showing how to do a hexcrawl-style expansion that is exploration driven instead of set-encounter play.

WizKids to Release Amethyst Dragon Miniature

Odd, I thought they'd already done this dragon. And agreed on the Green - I'd love it if Wizkids did a "retro" Lockwood Gargantuan Green Dragon (with battlemat and miniature's card, no less).

D&D General What spells should be on the rangers list?

Well, I went a two-way path. You could go the Druidic path and get spells or the Martial path and get combat maneuvers akin to the Battlemaster subclass, with special maneuvers themed towards certain enemy types (and did enhanced damage to specific enemies). This is an example maneuver...

D&D General Homebrew or Premade Campaigns?

A mix, and a lot of cases of published world with modified adventures, or homebrew world with published adventures. I use published worlds on occasion because some people are more familiar with those worlds, and for a while I was a bit ashamed how "kitchen sink" my homebrew world was. But...

Tell Us About Your Pirate Campaign(s)

Ran a pirates game in Greyhawk during 3E. The party started upriver on the Selincan River where they booked passage on a boat, trying to eventually get to the Amedio Jungle - they had a treasure map to an old pirate's cache. They ended up taking control of the boat and coaxed into taking up...

Does Your Game Have Random Encounters?

I stopped using random encounters sometime back in 3E. What I use now are "consequences" encounters. In dungeons, since I generally know what creatures are in each room, a general idea of routes they might take from area to area and any patrolling they might do, if the party encounters...

D&D General 5.5 PHB Species Options

I am absolutely shocked Human is in the lead. I didn't think so many people would want to play human characters in a fantasy game if given the choice.

D&D General What weird CR8 (or greater monster) did the evil water elemental cultists set loose in the flooded lower levels of a desecrated temple?

In a black whirlpool at the center of the bleak, churning waters of the flooded level is the Aboleth* Ghyrtnovan. The water cultists summoned him, seeking knowledge and power to defeat the Earth cultists. Though the water cultists were careful to bind it, Ghyrnovan proved too cunning. It...
