I generally have level-up happen between sessions, preferably with at least a long rest if not a break between adventures. Every once in a while I let it happen as a milestone event in a large adventure. I am considering returning to training rules as a method of slowing things down, however...

Interesting that they've moved away from the "trap as an encounter element with a CR etc." and are treating it more as a narrative element. I like it better that way, actually, as in practice the "trap with a CR" model always seemed to lead to anemic traps that were more annoying than actually...

The core d20 system (which 5E still uses, even in its highly modified way) is very robust and would work for a lot of things. I think a 5E version of Star Wars Saga Edition would be a lot of fun, for instance. :) I don't think horror is the best choice, because d20 assumes that characters start...

Sigil always brings to my mind memories of Mordenkainen and Elminster having tea in the pages of Dragon Magazine, something I found amusing but couldn't take seriously as part of actual play. It's arbitrary, I realize... why should the idea of D&D worlds being connected and interchangeable be...

We've been running the Starter Set; after four sessions, the characters are halfway between levels 3 and 4, and that's with a lot of skipped encounters. Believe me, it's not slow at all! -The Gneech :cool:

It might be a great adventure, but I couldn't make myself get interested in it because Red Hand of Doom pretty much handled the whole "Tiamat as ultimate baddie" campaign for me already. I'm looking for something new! Oh, and I don't like adventure paths. :P -The Gneech :cool:

Yes, this exactly! That's certainly the way I try to portray them (and they tend to come up a lot in my games). Drow are elves, with all that's potentially good and potentially bad about elves, and then they have this overlay of a ruthless and amoral society that's distorted their beliefs. One...

Unfortunately, "It doesn't bother me, therefore it shouldn't bother anybody" is a popular mindset among geeks (and among all humans, I would imagine), so it's very hard to have a meaningful discussion about it. I would guess that D&D film drow, if they did one, would go the Marvel Universe bit...

Apropos of nothing, in ref. to the 4E eladrin, one of my players said the three elven races were the half-elf, the elf, and the elf-and-a-half. In any case, the eladrin race is locked away in the DMG where it can't hurt you. ;) I kinda wish the tieflings and dragonborn had been put there too...

I have been playing it by having the barbarian choose between "rage" or "rage + frenzy" when they enter the rage state. Presumably if they decide they want to frenzy after already being in a rage, they could "rage again." -TG :cool:
