    D&D 5E (2014) After Phandelver: adventure options?

Actually, I'm building out the "Lost Mine of Phandelver" as a Moria-style megadungeon, of which Wave Echo Cave is simply the first accessible level, with other sections connected via the underground lake. It will eventually connect into the duergar territories of Thunderspire Labyrinth (heavily...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your Character's Race

The "GM PC" in my 5E game is a half-elf barbarian ("the little tiny girl with the great big sword"). My current character in a friend's Pathfinder campaign is a fashionista drow bard (mechanically a re-skinned elf to get around drow mechanical wonkiness); I'm hoping he will convert to 5E...

    D&D 5E (2014) Full preview unlocked!

Note that the optional healing rules are what, half a column? On that kind of a basis, you could cram a lot of "modular systems" into a very low page count. I suspect there'll be more to it than folks are giving it credit for! -The Gneech

    D&D 5E (2014) Class and Background combos

I have a drow bard whose background is guild artisan, because she's a jeweler as her day job who goes off on adventures to find rare stones and/or pay for her opulent lifestyle. She considers the rest of the party her staff. She's so much fun. ^.^ -The Gneech

D&D 5E (2014) What previous edition books would you like to see re-done?

I could go for that, assuming they were in a more easy to read format. Four columns of 10-pt text is not something I can effectively stare at, any more. >.< -TG

D&D 5E (2014) How would you continue this? (Lost Mine)

Well, with 20/20 hindsight, it might have been better to warn the wizard that the burning hands spell might set the tavern ablaze instead of just peremptorily doing it. A trained wizard would know the dangers of just blasting away like that. But that's water under the bridge, the question is...

Pathfinder 1E Where does Pathfinder go from here?

Ah, gotcha. No, I meant it took a long time to get anything done at the table. The old "45 minutes of fun packed into three hours of game" problem. -TG

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5th Edition DM SCreen

Nice! Well done. :) -The Gneech

Pathfinder 1E Where does Pathfinder go from here?

From my quote? Are you sure it wasn't someone else's? My only add-ons to the core rules are the additional classes, done mostly via the PFSRD. That's more than enough to create the effects I refer to! -TG

D&D 5E (2014) The Case for a Magic Item Shop?

How good to know I've been playing the game wrong all these years. Y'know, I like playing it wrong, I think I'll continue. -The Gneech

D&D 5E (2014) What previous edition books would you like to see re-done?

Does wanting Dungeon magazine back count? Honestly, that's my one big wish, the rest I can bash together on my own. An Eberron book would please my players, I suspect. -TG

Pathfinder 1E Where does Pathfinder go from here?

I went through what I refer to has "my HERO phase" (nudge nudge wink wink) from about 1988-1998, and for a long time it was the only system I would use. Now, I would never go back to it, for the same reasons I am saying farewell to Pathfinder. It is a beautiful mathematical artifact... but by...

Thousands of Published Adventures Which ones Have you Played and Liked or Disliked?

For me, the two adventures that worked best at the table over the course of many years of gaming were a DCC module for 3.0 called Curse of the Emerald Cobra, and WotC's own Red Hand of Doom. The former was part of a campaign I ran set in Greyhawk that had lots of old-school goodness; the latter...

D&D 5E (2014) The Pendulum: Player Entitlement & DM Empowerment

Every player (including the GM) has the same power of veto: Not enjoying the game? Walk away from the table. The GM has one additional "advantage": if he/she walks away from the table, everyone else will be stranded with nothing to do. On the other hand, with great power comes great...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best GMing Advice Article?

Honestly, start smaller rather than bigger. The Starter Set is sufficient, really. More than that before they've decided they're interested, and even the brightest kid will just see a mountain of work and be put off, in my experience. (And this is speaking as somebody who inherited a blue box at...

D&D 5E (2014) How are you going to play 5e and why?

Currently running the Starter Set, which is excellent overall, but quickly expanding/homebrewing the heck out of it. I'm starting to bump my elbows on not having the DMG (as my thread re: XP awards probably showed), trying to figure out good ways to handle treasure placement and such. -TG

Experience Points and the Three Pillars of Adventure (Long)

Well, that assumes there are places I don't want them to go. :) But if I'm aiming for the role of an impartial referee rather than aiming at a predesigned plot, I should be fine with whatever they choose. If they go somewhere that's out of their depth just to gain XP, it becomes self-correcting...

Experience Points and the Three Pillars of Adventure (Long)

I thought of that, having the players tell me what it is they wanted to accomplish in a given session and awarding quest XP based on those answers, but given the issues I've had with passivity among my group in the past, I'm a bit worried that it would lead to a lot of deer-in-the-headlights...
