[Trailer] Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency series

I wonder if they've removed Professor Chronotis and his off-brand TARDIS. In any case, Dirk seems a bit less shabby than he should, but I'm willing to give it a chance. -The Gneech

The classes at "high level" (14th)

Currently running an 11th level game here, and the cleric is still pound for pound the most "powerful" character in the party, with the ranger/rogue archer being the least due to problems punching through DR. The wizard (actually a blast-happy sorcerer) and the fighter (a tricked-out crit...

    Classes in the APG

Hmm ... thoughts... I like the Alchemist; in a "low-fantasy" game I could see the Alchemist being the only arcane class and still working as written. I would like the Cavalier better if he wasn't tied to a horse. Of course, that would mean the name Cavalier had to go, but I'd like that too...

    Guilty Admissions...

Hello, I'm The Gneech, and... I never actually ran the S&S Saga conversion I worked so hard on (see my sig), because I was actually running Red Hand of Doom at the time and could only get 2-3 sessions per month. Firmly believe that halflings should not be badass. (Also true of gnomes, but less...

What kind of puzzles do you give your players?

I love puzzles but they're hard to pull off convincingly without the old "mad wizard is testing you" routine. What puzzles I tend to use are more situational -- i.e., figuring out that the Gem of MacGuffin is on the boss's henchman rather than on the boss himself and taking the henchman out...

D&D 3.x How can I convert my 3.5e group to Pathfinder?

Switchover quietly and subtly ... start by converting all the encounters in the next session ... then ask 'em, "Hey, do you want some extra feats, a ton of extra skill points, and a Combat Maneuver Defense score? Sure ya do! Here's how to get it..." -The Gneech

    Search/perception

The rules don't have a fixed time beyond the move action, so it's mostly "whatever the GM says" if you're searching something like a building. The four hours figure may have come from the GM's memories of 3.x, where taking 20 on a Search check (what many parties default do when searching for...

    Silly bears

The general consensus seems to be that a Combat Maneuver counts as an attack -- so a critter with iterative attacks can do multiple CMs, with a cumulative -5 each. paizo.com - Paizo / Messageboards / Paizo Publishing / Pathfinder® / Pathfinder RPG / Rules Questions / Archives / Iterative...

D&D 4E Is Pathfinder Combat As Slow as 4e?

Yeah, the complexity and challenge level of the encounter makes a big difference in PF -- a handful of orcs will be chopped up in a matter of minutes, whereas a necromancer riding a dragon being backed up by a cluster of mohrgs and spectres will take all night. The thing with 4E by comparison...

D&D 4E Is Pathfinder Combat As Slow as 4e?

Have you ever played 3.x? Because it's pretty similar to that. If not, I'd say compared to 4E the overall fights are shorter, but you go longer in between individual actions as a player, since you're not constantly shifting, interrupting, and so forth. A fight that would take an hour in 4E...

    Search/perception

Yup, it's Perception. "Intentionally searching for stimulus is a move action." If you want a rogue to have a chance to automatically spot traps, take the Trap Spotter rogue talent. If you're just ransacking a room, that's an extended Perception check. -The Gneech

    Campaign Settings you like

To do Middle-Earth, you'd sorta have to approach it like a TV series -- throw out the plot of the books and just use the setting as a backdrop (or at least have the war be never-ending and leave out the One Ring). ...which I've thought of doing, actually, but in the end went in another...
