    D&D 5th Edition Dungeon Master's Guide

5 out of 5 rating for D&D 5th Edition Dungeon Master's Guide I've been reading this all weekend and I'm still only halfway through. But I've got to say, I'm very impressed! The DMG is usually my favorite book of any edition (even editions I didn't care for), and this one is easily as good as...

D&D 5E (2014) With the Holy Trinity out, let's take stock of 5E

Love it. So happy to "come home" to D&D. :) -The Gneech

D&D 5E (2014) Expanding Wave Echo Cave to bring PCs to 6th level

If I remember correctly, that's from one of the 4E Dungeon magazine adventure paths. But yes, a very handy map, yoink! -TG

    D&D 5E (2014) I have the DMG!

Got mine! First observation: I was not expecting an appendix of random useful maps! That's pretty sweet. It's looking awesome so far! -TG

D&D 5E (2014) Expanding Wave Echo Cave to bring PCs to 6th level

I've always seen crypt things as mostly unintelligent– almost more of a trap than a creature. But I've never actually used one. Point is you need some modicum of intelligence and sociability in order to have a "king," even of undead. -TG

D&D 5E (2014) Expanding Wave Echo Cave to bring PCs to 6th level

I actually put the myconids in there as a wildcard– I decided they have a hard time telling different types of "meat people" apart and so don't get into faction wars. They attack anything that comes at them with hostility, and ignore or parley anything else. I was also thinking it might be...

D&D 5E (2014) Expanding Wave Echo Cave to bring PCs to 6th level

Well, it's a large complex, so it's got different zones... The duergar-controlled areas that connect to Thunderspire Labyrinth have... obviously... duergar. :) Also some illithid hiding in the deepest regions. One section is a contested zone between a colony of orcs (descendants of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Expanding Wave Echo Cave to bring PCs to 6th level

I basically set it up so that Wave Echo Cave was actually a side-level to a larger, Moria-like complex centered on the underground lake. There used to be passageways connecting it to the larger complex, but they all collapsed in subsequent earthquakes. To get the players interested in braving...

    D&D 5E (2014) Drow "Sunlight Sensitivity" workarounds?

I'd agree with this. The goggles cut the super-bright light, but they also hamper peripheral vision and make it harder to see details. You could have 'em cut the extended darkvision too, by the same reasoning. Of course, in the dark, the drow character would just take them off. -The Gneech

    D&D 5E (2014) Drow "Sunlight Sensitivity" workarounds?

Requiring the player to take the downsides of a chosen race is not being a jerk. Saying that the player shouldn't be allowed to come up with a solution and that really that race should not be an option in the first place and all characters of that type should be killed on principle, that's what...

    D&D 5E (2014) Drow "Sunlight Sensitivity" workarounds?

Babylonian technology could make goggles. So unless your D&D world is still in the spears-and-the-discovery-of-fire stage, there's no reason not to allow it beyond fuddy-duddiness. And coming up with a feasible in-game workaround IS dealing with a limitation, just as much as learning sign...

    D&D 5E (2014) Drow "Sunlight Sensitivity" workarounds?

So the first solution to everything is "Be a jerk about it"? :P This is supposed to be a fun game about using your imagination, remember? Seriously tho. Steampunky smoked glass goggles. Leather and glass, custom made, relatively inexpensive, a neat character hook, and the first thing a...

D&D 5E (2014) LMoP: Wave Echo Cave and that 'map'

The map I put in was... a large-scale map of the rest of the Moria-like complex to which Wave Echo Cave is a side-chamber (and which connects eventually to the Duergar section of Thunderspire Labyrinth). ;) -The Gneech

    New News Page Layout

I'm not sold on it either. The previous design had more of the classic "tabloid layout" feel, which I prefer. I find the new design hard to read, and hard to tell where the focus is. -The Gneech

    D&D 5E (2014) New DMG Excerpt: It's A Trap!

After mucking about with PP a bit, I've decided to use it only to set the DC for NPCs to spot sneaking characters and the like. If there's a trap in a hallway, and the PCs aren't looking for it, I just say, "You've discovered a trap! Roll on Perception to see if you discovered it by spotting...

    Fifth Edition Fantasy #1: Glitterdoom

4 out of 5 rating for Fifth Edition Fantasy #1: Glitterdoom This is a nice little 3rd-level dungeon for the price, following the familiar refrain of dwarves delving too greedily, and too deep. Naturally, something bad happened to them, leaving your party to deal with the repercussions.It's...

D&D 5E (2014) Help! Getting My Group to Thundertree (Lost Mine of Phandelver)

Well, if they're really not interested, I would suggest letting 'em bypass it. If you really want to give them a reason to go there, maybe put the captured townsfolk from the Redbrand hideout into a dungeon cell in Cragmaw Castle? That would lead them to the necklace reward. -TG
