WotC Wizards of the Coast Announces Sci-Fi Video Game with ex-BioWare Developers

If they are doing original IP, hopefully they use something other than d20-based rules. They're a terrible choice for a modern/future RPG.

D&D 5E (2014) Encumbrance by carrying capacity - an easier way

If you want to deal with encumbrance "realistically" go get some type of non-d20 based modern RPG and see how they handle it. Better yet, go download "The Modern Warrior's Combat Load: Dismounted Operations in Afghanistan, April - May 2003."

    D&D 5E (2014) I'm really hating Constitution right now

3d6, in order. There is no substitute for the original.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

In my GH campaign, you don't even get valley, sylvan or grugach unless it's a campaign specifically focused on elves or unless you are a half-elf. Other than high or grey elves, they are too xenophobic and isolated.

D&D General Fundamental Problem Of Old Settings

What I find most difficult to grasp is that these calamities that are intended to jump between editions only happen infrequently. Greyhawk Wars lasted only a few years. Same with the Time of Troubles. Everything else happened in antiquity and are lost to time. Real-world, calamities of...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

Part of the reason for this is so that players want to take some flavor-based crunch instead of the usual x levels of this, y levels of that to get the mechanical benefits with no reason whatsoever for having done so. It's also to allow DMs to build opponents who aren't all the same all the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Arabian Nights adventures for 5E?

I dunno, X4/X5 always struck me as more Indian subcontinent or SW Asia-inspired than Arabian/Middle Eastern.

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

Í have the Known Realms (World of Aereth) boxed set from Goodman Games. I really like the setting because it is in the same spirit of being more GH than GH. Just enough info. No mechanics on the major NPC rulers, a decent pantheon of deities that can be easily swapped out, and some 3.x...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

Ideally there would be an author(s) who is heavily invested in the setting who would be given the opportunity to develop the 5e version of the setting. It was completely obvious that the 3e LGG was a labor of love, even though they had to go with a post-Greyhawk Wars timeline. The difficulty...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

For the most part. The core mechanics are solid. The adventures are mostly subpar and campaign support feels like an afterthought. Where were the major 5e adventures set in, campaign setting-wise? Most have been set in FR. Where's the 5e FRCS? Saltmarsh, while originally set in Greyhawk...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

I can't give you his answer, but I'm betting mine is probably similar. Just about all of the non-core 5e products have followed the same format: throw some stuff in for players and some stuff in for DMs, roll it around in a dusting of old campaign setting sugar if applicable, and declare it...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

It's not that players will know his level. It's that mechanically, a difference in level provides additional capability that a DM may need to take into account. Let's say for argument's same that the PCs end up fighting this guy. The party wizard casts a fireball. The Rgr14 takes half...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

The other thing about homebrew is that it is (should be) consistent because you are the only developer and your players are the only ones who influence it. It is easy to fill out what details you need and when - if you have the time to develop a homebrew setting. For those of us who don't...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

Yep. Explain why Mysteries of the Moonsea and Sons of Gruumsh aren't consistent in describing who the city of Melvaunt's leaders are even though they were published lead than a year apart from each other. The only way to know which is closer to "authoritative" is to go back and read the 2e The...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

Its not even just the crunch. It is a chance to adjudicate (whether we like their adjudication results or not) all of the inconsistencies across different published products (i.e. the canon) for the campaign setting. Just as a very simple example: 1e Greyhawk Folio states that the Kingdom of...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

They can't do basic maths? In actual play, its extremely fast since you only have to roll to hit and not roll damage dice and add them up.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

No, I'm arguing that by not having 5e stats for "x" you are forcing DMs to do extra work if they want to use that "x" now - whether an NPC, a flavor feat, or demographics for Keoland. That's the frustration with waiting if you can't or don't want to do your own conversions - WotC is sitting on...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

It's exactly the fact that your player pointed out the discrepancy that may be of concern to some. For others (like me), I don't have the time to do the conversions myself. I want to be able to, for example, select an old edition module and not have to do the conversion for monsters that had...

Only the Lonely: Why We Demand Official Product

Yep - and there is no 5e content for GH showing up under the 5e AND Greyhawk filters, for example. And the DMs resource for Ghosts of Saltmarsh is under the 5e AND FR filters...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

So which set of stats do you pick as the starting point for conversion? What if you convert them differently than me? That's the crux of why people may want WotC to do the 5e stats - they own the IP and they can make the hard (er) decision as to what his 5e stats should look like so that they...
