multiply the numbers by 10 or 20 then, doesn’t change the principle

Daggerheart Class Packs kickstarter is live.

I agree with that, it is not purely a popularity gauge, this being an optional product already makes it less important. If they had kickstarted their first ‘of Everything’ book instead, that would give us a better approximation

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

I don’t know, they can spend 1M on a new TTRPG or 100M on a new game, and I am not sure the game is guaranteed a higher chance of success than the TTRPG… If your game takes off then releasing a TTRPG for it might be a smart idea for WotC, but the hurdle still is to make a successful game first

even as a one man operation there are economics of scale. If you only manage to sell 20 books via KS, you will print those at a loss, and there is no point printing another 180 or so to bring the price down which you then have to store and sell later. I believe your best bet to get people’s...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

that probably assumes that you buy all of them, I assume most people are not collectors that compulsively buy everything. For the non-collectors who only buy what piqued their interest, the average year probably gets between 0 and 2 purchases. Having a wider array of offerings might change that

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

how many games are being released is far less interesting than what is actually getting played however. I get a lot more print advertising than I buy books, that doesn’t mean the advertising is more popular (or even wanted) around here

it’s a bit of both. If the KS sat at 1M right now people would take this as a sign of popularity. Sitting at 150k then also is a sign of somewhat limited popularity, some of which can certainly be explained by playstyle preferences and price point. The question is whether all of it can.

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

I am not saying they should, I am saying having 200 people work on the same book was the wrong takeaway. All of this ignores that video game developers might not have the right skill set for creating TTRPG supplements anyway ;) Not sure I agree with breakneck pace though, four or five books a...

it’s definitely an artificially low funding goal, designed to be reached within minutes or at least hours If for whatever reason you cannot reach that, cutting your losses might be your best option. DM Lair recently pulled an ongoing KS that was on track to being funded (I believe) because it...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

the game is not predictive at all never, if anything it makes it harder to predict what the correct next word / response would be. I mean, if you want to simulate a random conversation with no real result in mind, maybe it works for that, but that is not what AI outside of spamming Twitter is for

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

that does not feel like progress, have you met most people? When I look at what is going on in the world AI being as misinformed, ignorant, and biased as people means we should switch it off and start over

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I don't know, when I got the 1e books, I decided to ignore maybe half of the rules on my first read-through before even starting a game, because they were just too much added complexity for no apparent gain (and possibly some detrimental effects...) as far as I was concerned. I don't think I...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I am not that familiar with it, but from what I gather it is less crunchy than any version of D&D (1e to 5e,). Whether that makes it rules lite, I do not know
