Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

DDB makes tons of money off its subscriptions, they are not subsidizing it with the DLC. Another difference is the number of sales, the additional sales more than make up for WotC’s higher salaries. Pretty sure the Kobolds do not make 40% profit

Wizards of the Coast Re-Registers Dark Sun With USPTO

probably the Krynn where Raistlin had defeated all the gods and was left with a wasteland in return. Doesn’t quite line up either, but no other version comes anywhere as close

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

no, they are not, doesn’t change the fact that they charge way more than the others for this (or that I consider it overpriced because of that) I am not arguing that they cannot charge it, I am arguing against those that claim this is a good price because a print version would cost $25

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

it’s only available on DDB, which makes the bargain bin a bit harder

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

they still make a profit doing so however. Which is my point, the $15 WotC charges for 32 digital pages is way overpriced. They do so because they can afford to, not because it is an accurate reflection of their cost which is what I was saying, I am not the one claiming that this is a good...

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

not all that much, if Kobold Press can sell 32 digital pages for $5 and 64 for $10, then WotC can easily do so too. Given their volume they would still make a killing

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

Except that the labor is probably more in the $0.01 range in reality... Selling 10s of thousands of copies tends to make that one time labor cost very negligeable... EDIT: the $0.01 is for setting up the individual monster, for these books they had to also produce the actual content. The same...

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

agreed, I just think doing this comparison is missing the mark in the first place. The real comparison is against other digital products with that number of pages, not against a theoretical print product and then taking 60% of its hypothetical price.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

against bosses or in general? I am perfectly fine with that against bosses I am already convinced, also don’t legendary resistances already kinda paved the way for a more detailed approach than ‘one size fits all’?

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Dungeons of Drakkenheim, Pioneer, MÖRK BORG日本語版, and more

It raised less than half of what the 5e version did in the same first day. Still good for DH, just to put it in perspective. There are two factors for this imo 1) how many people know about the campaign to begin with, the Dudes being popular YTers probably makes quite a bit of difference there...

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

maybe, maybe they just set it to where they expect to make the most profit. We had this discussion already, the DLC is ridiculous overpriced compared to what other publishers ask for 32 pages, and that is what I compare it to. $5 would be a decent price for this, anything past $8 is greedy, $15...

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

the digital bundle was not reduced in price, certainly none of the DLC was, I don't think the actual 'books' were either. The only discount comes from bundling digital +print

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

personally, $4.99 would be a good price point, $9.99 is greedy, $7.50 is acceptable / kind of the upper limit of what can be justified

D&D General More Details Revealed for Forgotten Realms Digital Expansions

if you bought the bundle, you literally paid for them, I would contact WotC / DDB and ask them to resolve this. With you buying the expansions this might be harder now as the only fix now is to refund you for them

D&D Beyond Releases Free Forgotten Realms Adventure

that was not my intention, that was not about other DMs at all, it was about the product. You can prefer to not have to come up with something, even if you agree that it would be easy to. That says nothing about you as a DM. The point was that there still is a lot left that you do need to come...

D&D Beyond Releases Free Forgotten Realms Adventure

anything is possible ;) I grant you that there are people who find them useful. Do you grant me that I am not the only one to not find them all that useful? My point is more that I do not think that they make the best use of the limited space they have to give us an interesting scenario. They...

D&D Beyond Releases Free Forgotten Realms Adventure

not about how it works, but about how accurate it is. Also, it is pretty much the norm that people have to tweak encounters in premade adventures based on their party, or so I am led to believe on this forum, so if I need to do that anyway, WotC offering me what amounts to a random encounter is...
