Christmas Songs from the Southern Hemisphere

You're not kidding! I was really taken aback by that when I first moved here and am still occasionally surprised by it.

That's a reference to kangaroos, not baby boomers, in case anyone is wondering.

Christmas Songs from the Southern Hemisphere

It's been a looooong time since I went to (or watched on TV) the Christmas in the Park show. My kids are growing up! Are you based in NZ?

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

Both artworks are by Clyde Caldwell. The one with the lizardman was used on the cover of 1985's B9 Castle Caldwell and Beyond. The full art appeared in the 2e Monstrous Compendium Vol 2. I'm not familiar with B9, so I don't know if the lizardman has a name or not.

Christmas Songs from the Southern Hemisphere

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of children's songs. You don't hear those on the radio. None of those other ones you mentioned get any mainstream airplay, either. They're all pretty niche.

You’d think! But no, even our homegrown artists only ever seem to cover the northern hemisphere classics.

Christmas Songs from the Southern Hemisphere

You’d be surprised! It is really weird to hear all the standard wintry Christmas songs in the middle of summer. I wish the Lands Down Under would move Christmas to June or July. There aren’t really any noteworthy “Christmas in summer” songs that I’m aware of, and I’ve lived in New Zealand for...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I didn’t want to watch “Rules of Engagement” (more Klingon stuff, courtroom drama), but I’m determined not to skip any episodes. I watched it sped up. It turned out to be OK. “Hard Times” was a hard watch. Talk about Miles suffering. Whew!

D&D General I wish those new Forgotten Realms books would hurry up...

It's certainly hard for the guy in my Eberron game playing an artificer. I let the other players update to the new versions of their PC classes thinking that he'd be able to do so around the same time, but then the book got hit with the delay, and now he's left waiting ... he keeps asking, "When...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Yes, that's where I'm up to ... Keiko and Molly just returned after their year away. Yes, Miles groused a bit about losing his bachelor life with Julian, but Keiko saw that he was pining around, and she cared enough about Miles to arrange for him and Julian to spend some time together again...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I dunno. In the episode I just watched, she could see Miles was pining to play with Julian, so she told him she’d bumped into Julian and noticed he was depressed and needed cheering up. After Miles left, she called Julian and told him that Miles was depressed and needed cheering up. So far I...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I didn’t really enjoy “Sons of Mogh”. I have little patience for Klingon culture these days. The only part I liked was when Sisko got mad at Worf and Dax. “Bar Association”, on the other hand, was terrific! Loved seeing Rom stand up for himself and find his own path in life instead of always...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Binged some DS9 last night. “Our Man Bashir” was fun. Always a delight getting to watch the main cast play acting as other characters. (Avery as usual gave 110%.) The two-parter about the changelings on Earth was good, too. The Sisko family stuff was great, and I also enjoyed the way in which...

    Marvel's VisonQuest coming 2026

Curious. I've been tentatively looking forward to this one ever since White Vision flew off at the end of WandaVision. If I had to take a guess, the presence of all those other AIs suggests they will be helping White Vision become the real Vision? Perhaps through flashbacks as he "unlocks" his...

I think it is time for a break.

It wasn't intended as a break ... but when I packed up and left the USA to move to NZ in 2003 to get married and start my "adult" life, I gave away my D&D stuff, thinking I would not ever play again. However, just a few years later, my younger siblings-in-law convinced me to play 3.5e with them...
