I personally never had trouble making up maps in Roll 20. A few squares and circles and you got a battlefield! You could also upload/purchase general maps/tokens for the odd curveball.

Last time they tried that, we got 4th Edition.

I have no idea what your ideal layout would be unless you write a TTRPG yourself.
