D&D General WotC: 'Of Course We're Going To Do' Baldur's Gate 4

A lot of Silicon Valley has been driven by sci fi from the sixties, seventies and eighties that they grew up with and thought was cool. I also do not think that it will need a neural jack but really cheap light batteries and a lightweight headset. I think the real use case is drone war...

What's the bare minimum for a VTT?

Maps, tokens, shared dice rolls would be the minimum but I would like to be able to integrate character sheets. At least attach the computed die rolls to skills and abilities. I also have a strong preference for being able to preload encounters and being able to manage initiative is really useful.

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

The think that I notice, with all these discussions, we actually have terms that could be useful but we never agree to use them. Then again, we almost never agree as to where the edges lie for any given term. A lot of people seem to agree that Railroad is a play fail state. Should it be used to...

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

I would prefer some other terms for no. 1 though. I think "linear" is appropriate if there is only one path. I suppose path dependant or path constrained. Bounded perhaps. I agree that the railroad is a fail state. The tracks are showing. I would also add that many adventure path like...

D&D General WotC: 'Of Course We're Going To Do' Baldur's Gate 4

Just thinking about D&DBeyond from the player or DM perspective, if the current campaign notes and players notes where replaced with a blog (or microblog in the case of the players) where the updates could be added as separate post and the different post hyperlinked to (perhaps adding some...

D&D General WotC: 'Of Course We're Going To Do' Baldur's Gate 4

Very probably but I am usually reticent to place the entire responsibility on one set of shoulders without more evidence. Usually, people like Cao have their enablers in the hierarchy.

D&D General WotC: 'Of Course We're Going To Do' Baldur's Gate 4

I did not know they had started before the Beyond acquisition, pretty short sighted in my opinion. A case of "not invented here". If they had embraced Beyond, integrated with and built out dual use stuff, a 2d VTT, encounter and campaign management with a smaller unit working on the 3d engine...

D&D General WotC: 'Of Course We're Going To Do' Baldur's Gate 4

I personally believe that Sigil was an attempt at empire building by someone(s) and an attempt to replace Beyond. Mostly due to the fact that it appears to ignore all the benefits that Beyond integration could provide. I have a habit of checking when it comes up. They are still adding minis to...

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

The thing is it will be increasingly difficult to tell how the books are doing on their own. We will be increasingly not comparing like for like. Even the recent revenue, we know (or at least I believe I have seen it mentioned) that D&DBeyond is now generating a lot of revenue for WoTC but we do...

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

But if they are keeping the lore and giving a different class that is what?

D&D General Fall of Netheril- The Return of the Arcane Age Subsetting

How does niche preclude that it was not already submitted as part of other books?

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

What backtrack? What we know is that the PDK as presented in the UA is not going ahead, instead we are getting the Banneret a class that has some of the features of the UA PDK and some of the features of the old PDK all with a more party support role. This class ( not a Purple Dragon Knight...

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

Majority? That is like your opinion man, unless you have some data to back that up. Noone, I know got into D&D for the lore, they play because it is a fun game that allows exploration of some fun scenarios that cannot be gamed in any other fashion.

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

Yes but we never really got the lore. Enough of a connection to justify a pet class but no idea as to why this came about (unless I missed something). It could be cool or not, I think the fuss is largely unwarranted but then I am not a fan of inviolable canon.

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

I am not sure what "All in" means in this context. It appears that there will be some connection between the order of the Purple Dragon Knights and amethyst dragons and that they will not be a pet class, but I do not know that it warrants the fuss being made. Maybe it does or then again perhaps not.

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

If in the revised lore (as indicated by this thread title) PDK's are associated with amethyst dragons, then clearly, either the majority did not reject the change in lore or if they did WoTC choose to ignore this. They have not as far as I know, released anything with respect to how people voted...

D&D General Fall of Netheril- The Return of the Arcane Age Subsetting

I suspect that the stuff that will be low cost DLC will be the stuff that almost makes it to the final lay out pass. That stuff that was commissioned before they decided on the final focus of a book. Given that they discard 50% probably means that there are whole chapter in near publishable...

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

I think that this thread has given me another reason to dislike the idea of canon. In social media spaces like this it always comes across as an attempt to place a boundary around the imagination of others, usually the IP holder but if the IP holder makes the change, even some that are additive...

D&D General My experience with popular D&D VTT tools

I have played in a long campaign and run games using it. Everyone needs to be at least on the free D&DBeyond subscription and next month the DM can use on the same subscription. You can upload maps, use maps from material you own on D&DBeyond and launch it from within the campaign or for players...

D&D General WotC: 'Of Course We're Going To Do' Baldur's Gate 4

I would love to see Tactical Adventures get a licence to port the PHB classes into their game but writing wise they are a fair distance from the needed standard.
