D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Some time you do, if the marketing that works best on the old demographic is off putting to onboarding the new. Not say that this is an issue here but also remember that the old demographic has their game and material. As Gary pointed out many years ago, they do not really need more material...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

I do not, in fact, like Level Up. I also do not post regularly that I do not like level Up. I know that there are people that do like Level Up and I see no reason post that I do not like Level Up repeatedly on various thread on these forums because that would be annoying to other users, and I do...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

With all due respect, given that 5e 2024 is my favourite version of the game so far, your expression of your feelings often comes across to me as an expression that my preferred version of the game should not exist.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

There is no reason to stop playing the game you enjoy. It still exists; new editions, supplements or additions of the rules do not remove it from existence. On the other hand, no one has any obligation to continue to produce material you like.

Acknowledging that marketing does fail, it is still safe to assume that any marketing effort that one does not understand, probably means that it was not aimed at oneself

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

What does this sentence actually mean? What millions of games will be lost, and where did they go? What? and how does corporate greed make a playstyle unplayable? Will they hire ninjas to come in the night and steal books or assassinate practitioners of forbidden playstyles? No, go ahead, do...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Well, I have not, but as the why? Well why not? and for that matter all of the mentioned possibilities. What is the downside? I know, I am now an old fogey but it is my understanding that most of those most vehemently offended by gay scenes are among the older demographics (though I could be...

Is this some D&D version of Roko's Basilisk?

D&D General Circle Magic and New Spells: Gain Mastery Over the Weave

This is not a bad thing, though I wish that it has some guidance for general use, rather than a list of specific effects. There are quite aq few utility and protection spells in D&D that are a bit too narrow and niche in their effect for general use that could be modified to become more...

TTRPG players wanted for online psychology study

I think I might have given much different answers to some of the questions 30 years ago.

Unearthed Arcana New Psion update, Dungeons and Dragons Unearthed Arcana

You are not, if you want that look at third party stuff. Perhaps if it get popular enough it may migrate to the main game. Wizards have become very conservative because it appears that conservative is profitable, more profitable than being experimental. The experiments will be in the third...

D&D General I asked AI: "What's the Most Common Cause of Character Death?"

However, that AI does not admit to ignorance and gives and answer anyway is a mark against AI as a general search and research tool.

Poll: VTT Users - Do you prefer self-hosted or cloud-based VTTs?

As a user of both FantasyGrounds and D&DBeyond, I am agnostic on hosting but Beyond is my minimum spec and prefer the DM tools in FG. Probably would not switch without some compelling reason.

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

At the current rate of publication I may buy 2 to 4 books per year and if I really like or want to use something another version of that for a VTT (sometimes I want to use it and it is VTT only). Ramp up the production rate and I will pay less attention to any given product and analysis...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

While I agree with you that putting that kind of investment into tabletop would not be useful and that Beyond needs more developmemt. I think that game studios are orobably a good investment. They have prebuilt ip, as long as they acceot that most games will fail in one way or another but they...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

I never claimed that the market would collapse, do not put words in my mouth. What I am saying is that the more content released the less attention any given thing will get and with that lower attention comes a reduced chance any given product will get a purchase. I find I am near that limit...

Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

No, Wizards does not need to produce more boiks. I suspect they are already producing all the books the market can bear. I alredy can neither afford, nor read all the books being produced. More books would nor increase sales to me. It would likely reduce them because I would pay less attention...

What constitutes a "hit" in your mind?

I would argue that at the end of this Inigo is at zero hp and Wesley has lost a lot also. But yes, different folks can have legimitely different opinions as to what hp and hits are in D&D or other rpgs. Some other rpgs are more one thing or another though.
