(5.24 PBP) Vault Redux (OOC) Fitz's Refresher

This is why I did the synopsis. I found it odd that the group was making friends with the lizard folk chief that had been put in place by the cultists. So, you did not forget to mention it.

D&D 5E (2024) Did Vampires just become more of a problem?

Huge Vampiric Fire Elemental? Presumably, you have to have blood to become a vampire?

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If you want to micro manage every weapon (which lots of people don’t - some people don’t even like tracking ammo), Every weapon can have a durability stat. Every time you miss or roll a 1 or whatever, durability goes down. At certain thresholds, the damage dice goes down by one. When the...

Kulan: Knightfall's Heroes of Carnell Game [OOC]

I have both the Carnell and the bluffside maps on roll20. Or we can go dig them up on these boards. The Pegasus is clear with the statue, I think, but The rest are not

    IRON DM 2025 Tournament Thread

I’m not sure how I’ve been on the boards since 2003 and never heard of Iron DM. I’m having a lot of fun following along.

@MetaVoid your turn for the round

What do you do with a character when a player bails forever?

We have a place for those characters…. The Pit. More seriously, if they aren’t integral to any ongoing plots, at the first sign of civilization, the character goes their separate way.

What ever is easiest and makes the most sense for you. I’m happy to jump into anything.

D&D General Radiation & nuclear waste

This sounds similar to what I posted upthread.

    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

It answers it in the sense that I don’t believe that is a good use/description of charisma to search for secret doors. I answered how I might tweak the fluff to make it more appropriate for charisma - even if I find that tweak a bit weak.

    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

if a player described looking for secret doors by intuiting how a person might hide something, I would have them roll wisdom (insight) instead of charisma investigation. Not that there’s anything wrong with interpreting that as charisma (investigation) but that interpretation doesn’t feel...

    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

Yeah, that’s my point. It feels more like insight (wisdom) to search than charisma

D&D 5E (2024) House Rule: Con mod HD Recovery instead of Full

Do you find they are burning all their HD between long rests? Were they doing that before or were they saving some? In 2024, there’s more uses for HD in combat so they get used up quicker (that healer feat, for example) Out of the options posted, I’d go with proficiency bonus. They need HD...

    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

This is the best answer I’ve seen but This sounds like insight to me. Which is a wisdom skill. Charisma is more force of personality. I suppose you could reframe it: if I was a person hiding something, where would I sit, rest and talk.

D&D General Advice for a new DM

This is a cool idea. Potion cards that the dm hands out during the adventure when you find it in treasure and stuff. But the dm collects the cards at the end of the session and hands them back out to the players at the beginning of the next session to be redistributed to the players that show...

(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Merrick grunts as the acid hits him and burns through his clothes. He'd always gone without armour for better mobility. Besides, who needs armour when Fate is your shield? Perhaps, today, would be the day he died. Only the Priests of the dragon had the means...

D&D General Radiation & nuclear waste

I have a d20 modern add-on called Grim Tales. It has a whole section on radiation and mutations They rate it in Rads and a hazard is rated in Rads per interval (rounds, minutes, hours etc..) Every interval they are exposed to fallout, they accumulate rads. They make a con (fortitude)save DC...

D&D General Advice for a new DM

Welcome! Welcome to DMing. Fudging things is the biggest tool in the toolbox. Fortunately, your players don't know the plot, so you're all good.

    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

Charisma search for secret doors is finding allies within the dungeon that know the location and tell you where they are.
