    D&D General A Setting! A Setting!

On the bridge to Circle Isle, I was thinking there would be a need to move large objects/goods from Lambeth over to Cynelsa in some manner, as I had imagined that the Great Road was the main commerce line into the city. Having the bridge to Circle Isle does create a buffer to Lambeth directly...

Wizards of the Coast Re-Registers Dark Sun With USPTO

It would be nice if they could get Brom back to at least do the cover/alt cover for a Dark Sun book and Tom Braxa to do some of the interiors. I'm honestly nervous about what WotC might come out with for a 5E Dark Sun, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. I'd certainly like them to hew as close...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

I don't think it would necessarily be a good fit for every character, though I'm not against non-casters getting some out-of-combat abilities that can give spells a run for their money. There is, however the Magic Initiate feat you could use for the above (for those who want it, or give it...

    D&D General A Setting! A Setting!

My thoughts on Cynelsa: Mount Cynelsa: Simply called "The Cynelsa", this towering mound hosts the Ars Rex Magnifica (ARM) at its peak. The only access to it is a switchback road approached from the southeast. The switchback serves two purposes: defense against a straight push up the mound...

D&D General Poll: How many Role Playing Games do you play besides D&D?

Actual young people; I recently had a group of college age players who wanted to do Star Wars, but demanded to use 5E instead of considering WEG or SAGA rulesets. I've had other cases as well.

My (crude) interpretation of the major interburough El lines (in blue) and major street layout in Hackwark.

D&D General Poll: How many Role Playing Games do you play besides D&D?

In my experience, in older days people were a lot more willing to try other systems than I've seen of late. Nowadays I see a lot of people push back against playing anything other than D&D, or if they want to do a different genre they'll just use D&D for it with a couple custom tweaks.

D&D General Do you think we might start to see more varied Tiefling art to match the PHB descriptions?

I don't think we will, since 4E they've been trying to build brand identity for the visual look of creatures, so variety of appearance runs counter to that.

I feel like we need a Ribald Street somewhere in Hackwark. And some kind of Las Vegas strip - maybe the southeastern arm of the Grand Road?

I could see the roads in Hackwark expanding out in concentric circles from the Operium/Hackwark Hill.

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

There's a temptation at high level to make everything "world/reality endangering". Be aware of the implications to your game world they would create - especially if the PCs fail. Try to build into multiple states of success or failure to such themes; they're generally much better than binary...

More: (hope this doesn't seem like spam, this is the sort of design I love to do) The Skybound: Originally started as a cross-city courier service employing mounted Griffons, today the Skybound have two divisions - the long-vaunted courier service and a branch that acts as a form of aerial...

    D&D General A Setting! A Setting!

It's me again: Palaise de Operium (based loosely on the Palais Garnier): Commissioned by the royal family, this grand opera house stands atop Hackwark Hill and it is considered that both ends of the Grand Road were built to lead up to its courtyard. The opera house itself is over 500,000...

D&D General Poll: How many Role Playing Games do you play besides D&D?

Ever? D&D (B/X-BECMI, 1E, 2E, 3/3.5E, 4E, 5E) Pathfinder 1E Star Wars (WEG, d20, SAGA) Star Trek (Decipher, Modipheus) Savage Worlds Vampire: The Masquerade Werewolf: The Apocalypse / The Forsaken Changling: The Lost Hunter - The Vigil Pendragon Shadowrun 3E Star Frontiers Alternity Aliens...

D&D General Sharing my dnd artwork(no AI)

It took me a bit to understand what was going on with the falling guy in the background of the monk picture (dismounted sniper archer with arrow in hand from I'm guessing a deflect missiles use) - but what's the story with the person hanging half-way out the window? Got the sill pulled down on...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

A note on Cloaks of Displacement - they can be taken out of the picture by attacks against saves (such as area effect spells like Fireball, Web or spells that entangle) or the likes of Magic Missile, that allies of the attacker can then use to their advantage - until the player's next turn. The...

Another idea: The Great Road: Not to be confused with the Grand Road in Hackwark, Lambeth's Great Road stretches from the edge of Trigon Bridge to the westernmost outskirts of Lambeth, curving to follow the base of the Lambeth Earthmound. While starting wide in the east - enough for two lanes...

    D&D General A Setting! A Setting!

An idea: The Waveswith Aquaduct and Canal: Some time ago, an enterprising individual realized there was great profit in erecting an aquaduct that ran almost directly from the Water Rift in Ellindam Lake straight down into Waveswith, bypassing the fouled waters of the Ell. The individual formed...

    D&D General A Setting! A Setting!

For my money's worth - streets. Seeing how the city blocks are broken out is pretty defining, from the grid layout of planned cities, to the meandering cow-trails-turned-roads of Atlanta, or the narrow, defensive streets of some European cities. It can be as defining as the architecture or the...
