D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 Is Hilariously Broken. Most OP of All Time?

I think you're being sarcastic but in all seriousness this is what the majority of tables do, by ending their campaigns before those level spells are castable

    D&D 5E (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

There is a long list of egregious misses in the 2024 PHB that WotC was clearly aware of (presuming they paid the slightest attention to UA feedback), and that they haven't addressed yet. This doesn't mean they actually intended to make those changes. For whatever reason, WotC's standard...

    D&D 5E (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

Fluff text gives us an indication (perhaps falsely) about what they intended the rules to be. Personally I think they did remove the word Hostile by accident, or more precisely it wasn't literally an "accident" but I think they removed it thinking that the word was not required and didn't catch...

    D&D 5E (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

This is exactly why I think WotC dropped the term from the 2024 rules, and then I think they just missed the interaction that War Caster would then allow buffing spells to be cast on allies. You could probably argue that this was technically always possible with 2014 rules by stretching the...

D&D 5E (2024) Pact of the Blade + Shadow Blade?

It's definitely strong, especially if your combats tend to last several turns, or if your DM telegraphs incoming combat enough to reliable get Shadow Blade cast before combat. I wouldn't call it busted though, at best it's similar to Conjure Minor Elementals without the insane scaling

    D&D 5E (2024) Warcaster Cheesy Fondue 2024

Rules As Written, this seems to be the case yes. Verdict is still out on Rules As Intended until someone from WotC chimes in. As always, the ruling at each table will be determined by the DM. This does not work at my table because I think it is just an oversight in the wording. I may change...

    D&D 5E (2024) Abusing True Strike 2024

I don't follow - how does True Strike give a Warlock the effects of Extra Attack scaling up to three attacks?

    D&D 5E (2024) Abusing True Strike 2024

It also works great on Valor Bards, Eldritch Knights, and Bladesingers since they can use True Strike as one of their Extra Attacks. Also another way to get the spell is being a High Elf I don't see how any of this is "abusing true strike" though. It's a good spell that some classes will...

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

"Build-defining" could be a stretch depending on what that term means to you, but there are so many options to choose that are really good, so it's pretty easy to find one that at least really helps round out your build: Cloud is probably the best to build around. Multiple Misty Steps per day...

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

Great list! It's obviously all subjective and I don't find anything you wrote to be way off. Here's what I would change for the 2024 PHB races: Dragonborn are way overrated, definitely not the best race in 2024. 5 points is way too much for 10 minutes of flight once per day, only usable once...

D&D General Possible or possibly terrible? wildly different approach to random encounters

I second this. If you want to do away with random encounters, then just eliminate them. I've never heard of anyone using random encounters in 5e DnD although you tagged the thread DnD General so presumably you're playing an older version where they are common. If you eliminate random...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

Yeah missing sucks. I'd rather boost the HP on everything and have everyone dealing damage left and right. Just my preference Nothing more fun in DnD than scooping up a massive pile of dice and dumping them all on the table to add up

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

Well ok then I guess I'm bad at reading because I just re-read all your posts and I still don't see your explanation of which weapon mastery properties are causing issues. Can you explain again? Slow, Sap, Vex, and Graze all just happen without the player needing to decide or do anything so I...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

Nick is definitely interesting, it makes dual-wielding actually be a viable way to build a character which it never was before. Push, Slow, and Topple offer battlefield control options. Personally I find that boring I just want to kill stuff dead - but many people will find it interesting to...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

To be honest the only one I even like is Nick because two-weapon fighting desperately needed a buff, but that could've been handled with the Light property itself I'd totally buy the argument that the rest are just change for the sake of change and don't really add anything to the game. I just...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

Because if you don't think Weapon Mastery is a worthwhile addition to the game (totally reasonable stance to take, I'm on the fence about it), then pretending like it is super complicated and slows down the game is the fashionable thing to do. It's impossible to know how long combat takes at...

D&D 5E (2014) ADHD friendly character sheet design

No ADHD myself but I have worked with players who potentially did (all I know for sure is they had trouble remembering what their character did, which dice were which even after months, etc), and one technique I've seen help is a combat flowchart. For example for the Open Hand Monk: 1) pick...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

Yeah really. Even in this thread several people have asked which specific weapon mastery properties were slowing things down, but no answer was given. It honestly just feels like complaining about weapon mastery "slowing things down" is a convenient scapegoat for people who just didn't want...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

I love the thought process that it's perfectly fine for casters to slow down the game choosing between their dozen spells, but heaven forbid a fighter take up a couple extra seconds to roll a d20 to try to knock someone prone. However will the smooth-brained martial players handle such...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

An extra feat is way more powerful than weapon mastery, and could end up being just as much additional complexity (depending on what you pick). Could still be worth considering though if you really want to get rid of weapon mastery but are afraid players will complain about it
