    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

I'm down for that. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have races with strong and unique mechanics, even to the point of outright negative modifiers to scores. But I'm even more for strong lore that matters, and between the popular play pattern of ignoring lore for the sake of just getting powers...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

You've just admitted to not care about lore? At least not in the same way as I? I think we are too far apart on this to reach an agreement.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

Let me restate the point, if it is not a standard option -or near standard like with feats and MC- it is entirely on the DMs hands, and the average DM out there is very stingy with optional stuff. It doesn't matter how generous I myself am as a DM, nothing I can do helps my chances of getting to...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

@OB1 The houserule is not bad. Indeed I see myself implementing something similar. But I see no point to buying into the new edition/ whatever if the books haven't come out of the shop yet and we see the need for houserules already. And also, because this does nothing for me as a player.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

Great for you, but the current alternative is that NOBODY gets to play them anymore. Not in a meanignful way. Experience tells me that if something is in a sidebar on the DMG, I can expect to maaaaybee being able to use is at most once, and that is if I luck out. And most important to me...

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's call it 5.24

Just 5.2, the extra .04 is too long.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

And what was the harm on recognizing that human/elf is just somehow common and give it as an example just with a new name if that was their hill to die on? (And keeping lore while at it?)

    D&D General Diabetes in dnd

This, I'm a fan of modelling as much as possible with a character, but I'm not sure of how much we need to model disability. I'm honestly not a fan of the flaws for feats model. Disability in game shouldn't be just another way to minmax. At the same time, I don't think we should punish players...

    Spoilers Godzilla Minus One [spoilers]

I loved this movie! It is so emotional and cute. The human story was so good that I forgot about the giant monster (and I've been hooked on Goji movies since I was like five or six. I have nearly all of the Heissei Era on physical media, plus all of the Millenium era, Shin Goji, the 1955...

But no matter how well-intended it is right now, in five years it will be seen as rude, in ten years as offensive and later as hate speech. It is, as I said, hard.

    D&D General Diabetes in dnd

It is a hard issue, due to euphemism threadmill. Any word chosen for this will eventually become a bad word, and be replaced by another well-intentioned word that in turn will become a bad word and be replaced by yet another one.

At that point, why demand nuance and shades of grey if you're set on your own black and white position?(Edit: generic "you")

I'm all for expanding the paladin, and in principle I'm not a fan of paladin as crusader, but some of the language used is implying paladin=Christian and Christian=Bad?

@Levistus's_Leviathan I wanted to draw a couple character portraits to show you how I have envisioned a few paladins I've played/made, but I haven't had the combo of time/energy needed. I hope to do it later this week. Meanwhile, I got reminded of the Lightsworns from the Yugioh card game. In...

@Levistus's_Leviathan I'm sorry we as a Community failed you. Though I'm not entirely sure what a solution looks like for you. Your OP and follow up lacked clarity in that regard. What do you envision when you visualize a solution?

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

I'm a fan of Gazette era Greyhawk. However, I'm also a fan of going even further back in the timeline, and of messing with some of the established NPCs.

IMO, I prefer the Paladin as a champion for Good (capital Good) and strictly tangential to dieties. Someone who may worship good deities, but only because these deities are aligned with Good, not because they somehow define or determine Good. In the same way, a Paladin should and would raise...
