    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Greyhawk was 3e/3.5e's default setting in the same way The Forgotten Realms is 5e's. There's very little in the way of support for those settings in the core books. So little that there really is no setting to default to.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Yeah. If you're new you should start small, dealing with much smaller groups and power structures. The first time I picked up the DMG to try my hand at DMing I would have been overwhelmed by all of those major areas and power structures.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

You have 6 major groups there and 10 PHB races. Which ones suffer to make place for Dragonborn and Goliaths?

    Player skill vs character skill?

It can be very disrupting to the game and campaign. Unbalanced things can(and have) fallen into PC hands, major NPCs have been killed or worse, etc. The costs are the same. We can suffer in-fiction disruption and loss, and we can be have negative emotions occur in response to what happened...

    Player skill vs character skill?

Your players are going to end up in a lot better shape than my players.

    Player skill vs character skill?

It's not that black and white. I think that it's the player who is predominantly on the short end of the stick with it, but there have been numerous occasions where I have described the fiction, whether it be a trap or something else, where the players have come up with something I didn't think...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I don't know that I would go that far. Pretty much everything, mechanical or not, is divisive. I'm not sure one is more than the other.

Because it's a fool's errand to even try. The base is too fractured on everything, like people are on every topic.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

A lot of us don't care what the equipment package of a game is, or who the game might choose to love. That's the game's business.

Even with something like the OGL debacle, they could have stuck to their guns and kept it. They'd have kept the lion's share of their customers, who were either unaware as most don't come online to discuss/argue the game or don't care. They caved because the numbers they would have lost would...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

The base is very fractured. Even those who play 5.5e don't all agree on a single feel for it. You can't even get anywhere close to every 5.5e player on this site to agree with you about the vibe(subjective feel) of the game or if it needs a dedicated setting, let alone give a single unified...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Countercounterargument. There is no customer base definition. The base is way to fractured on what it thinks and perceives for there to be any single definition put forth by it. We can't even get 5 people here on the site to agree on definitions. That leaves only WotC to set a definition.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

The 2e fights I remember were longer, but not anything like 3e, some of which went more than one 4 hour session.

Dark Sun would be the only problematic one, since it has special classes.

Settings are not edition dependent, though. I have run a 5e campaign using 2e Ravenloft. With no issues.

I don't remember that being deemed okay in older editions. Where does it say that? What you are describing isn't a rules/edition issue. It's a social contract violation. It may be completely accidental and he just forgot, in which case he lets you change your spell choice and no harm, no...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

My point is that it took them 11 years to get us one more book on the Forgotten Realms. Relying on future Realms books to do stuff isn't the most solid choice. :)

Actually, according to the 5.5e PHB, you are supposed to ask him before you make your character. His setting might not even have wizards.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Nothing is a conversion, because none of the settings that I know of have setting specific mechanics that need to be converted. You don't convert settings. Most settings just are, and you adventure in them with whatever system you feel like using.
