I'm assuming it doesn't start with the main character committing sexual assault like the original.
I love cheesy sword and sorcery B-movies, but that shouldn't fly anymore IMO.
I bailed at book 7. If it hadn't been for Brandon Sanderson, I would have never finished the series.
I mean, of course none of us would have, but knowing that he actually picked the pace up and things happened, gave me reason to return to the series and plow on through the desert to reach...
Honestly, I think these are the best stories in GRRM's Westerosi fiction, and I hope HBO does them justice. I really like the "zoomed in" focus on a few key characters and seeing the "real" world, not just the machinations of nobility. The trailer is pretty promising.
Behind it all are huge...
I haven't actually played an RPG in quite a while ... since the early days of 5E, IIRC. Still gaming, just more miniature wargames, card games, and board games. While I do miss RPGs, I find the other gaming is more flexible for time invested.
I wouldn't use hit points for this, but I have used "hero points" in a campaign for something similar. Start with three; regen one when you gain a level. There were some limits on how they could be used so they weren't absolute plot armor, but could certainly be used to affect events significantly.
