I think 5E skills are a fine implementation...but sometimes I don't play with skills at all. Or, I refrain from reminding players that they even have them and instead call for them to make an even simpler CR roll.

I don't think it's as unhinged as you're making it sound. It's a simple but astonishingly easy mechanic to use. Relies on a player's skills and attributes. Nothing to look up. Easy to use in imaginative ways and gives the player options.

Absolutely. I allow players to do this kind of thing often to modify spell effects.

Well, there's no accounting for taste. 😇 But seriously, Daggerheart wins hands down in the eye candy department. It's a gorgeous game with insanely high production value. I think that explains about 82.5% of its success thus far.

Books for games today are already well into the hundreds of pages. At what point does it become counterproductive? Speaking of narrative games and incorporating narrative elements into different games, few things are less helpful to story building than having to pause to find something or look...

At least from this DM's perspective, if a few books within reach, a notepad, dice, a DM screen and maybe a few loose-leaf sheets of 8-1/2 x 11" paper are insufficient for me to run a TTRPG session, something feels wrong. If it requires more than that, or even if more than that could be said to...

I don't really like cards with my TTRPGs either. I get the slight aversion. They don't make me say, "ew," but they've never appealed to me as a side resource, neither the class cards, magic item or monster sets. Cards for deckbuilding games are one thing, but I've never purchased a card-based...

On Paramount+, I highly, highly recommend Lioness and Landman. And if you're a Star Trek fan, Strange New Worlds is one of the better ST shows to come out in a while. But of those up there, Lioness is must-watch, IMO.
