The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 Trailer Released

Not strictly D&D but definitely a table top vibe of bickering murderhobs.

D&D General Amazon's 'Secret Level' Animated D&D Episode Featuring Tiamat

I do wonder if there's some backdoor pilot plans are going on?

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast Backtracks on D&D Beyond and 2014 Content

I felt like the Gama World version was a great fit for 4e's mechanics.

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast Backtracks on D&D Beyond and 2014 Content

Well, that would have doubled down on the board game/gribbles vibe. Their take on WF provided a tuckbox for every player so they could store all their cards and cardboard bits between games.

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast Backtracks on D&D Beyond and 2014 Content

At this point, you'd think WotC would quit trying to see "what sticks" and assemble an editorial board to bounce ideas off of. Of course, they'd probably use focus groups instead but that is a different beast.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Would they offer more if game designers didn't settle or demanded more. Simply because they are paying the most doesn't mean they are paying what people are worth when their work impacts a whole industry.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Apologies that I wasn't clear. What I meant was I wondered if WotC lowballs in general because at other ttrpg companies (or even owning a ttrpg company) is so low that we don't demand or negotiate for more.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Honestly the base pay in this industry is such a difference compared to what Hasbro offers, it makes me wonder if "they," whoever that might be, are lowballing everyone in the WotC department.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Part of it is cost of living in Seattle, the other part is working for a big dog like Hasbro; sadly the value the company places on the skill set is further down the list. The vast majority game designers do not make this much, even those who own their ttrpg company. WotC or Piazo are biggest...

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #78

The strength to D&D's magic system is its predictability of what spells a player will use, in what order, and how often. Adding another system or a system that offers more flexible choices is always going to have a demerit right out of the gate for some GMs. Also the whole, "Don't put sci-fi in...

    Rebellion Acquires Tunnels & Trolls

Same. By the time I found Iron Crown's CYOA books for Middle Earth, they were already out of print - twice evidently.

    Rebellion Acquires Tunnels & Trolls

I think fifth edition and the latest edition were appreciated most by fans. In the past, it's most unique mechanic was the "Saving Roll," which was the first attribute check back in the day. The bit that's still unique today is that melee combat was simultaneous with all the dice totals from...

    Worlds of Design: Colonies

Everything is subjective. But the author did mention colonization has some issues.

Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive TTRPG Makes $1M In Under An Hour

Honestly, I found many of the images in the KS to be spoiler-ly. Say what you want about Sanderson, he presented fully engrossing world AND then he revealed an even deeper universe.

Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive TTRPG Makes $1M In Under An Hour

I opine that the primer is a big draw for the KS for fans who won't ever pick up a die will buy the set for the system agnostic primer alone. However, those people also love pretty books on their shelves so they won't be so mad about having those gorgeous ttrpg books either way.

RPG Evolution: Hike Like a Hero

I’ve lost count on how many new GMs want to make sprawling continents as their first map or for a West Marches game. Few, if any of them, believe me that just a few valleys will do for our project unless we want to use teleport pads.

Graphic Design Layout Artists: The Reason TTRPGs Look Great

Graphic design and layout should definitely get more props. You can more easily promote a mediocre game with great presentation than you can a great game with poor presentation.

WotC WotC Removes Digital Content Team Credits From D&D Beyond

The expectation of where you might get a credit or byline changes across different publishing industries. For some some it is automatic, like journalism or fiction. It seem in ttrpg, it changes by publisher. It's something that has only really come to the fore in the last decade but it's always...

WotC WotC Removes Digital Content Team Credits From D&D Beyond

This is part of a challenge of running a corporate company like WotC. We have a new guy coming in who may/may not be trying to turn a new leaf and these shenanigans may have happened two CEOs ago but no one noticed for years - or it could have been yesterday.
