    Curiosity about smartphone ownership

I just got my first cell phone, smart or otherwise. For years I've simply used VOIP for phone purposes. As long as I got WI-FI I can make calls. Though, now I am single again and you pretty much need them for dating. Also, its very handy to hail an Uber/Lyft as I live in the city (though not...

    Played some Classic Traveller today

I like the simplicity of Traveller. It does hard sci-fi really well. My favorite kind of setting too. A golden age of piracy 1650; but in space. I also like characters being skill driven and not mechanically complicated. The system does great for these needs. I definitely get why some sci-fi...

    Played some Classic Traveller today

Yes in my experience the Mongoose version just does a bit of clean up, but tries to retain the classic system as much as possible. Chargen is about 80% the same, but they added a few tweaks to aid players and make more well rounded PCs. Space combat is one area Mongoose did some of the bigger...

    Played some Classic Traveller today

I played very little of classic Traveller, most of my experience is with Mongoose era. There are some changes to a number of things, but its still feels relatively close in my opinion. Though, many classic die-hard fans might beg to differ. Either way, Traveller is my favorite Sci-Fi system. I...

    Played some Classic Traveller today

It seems J-O-T is one skill that got a work over in Mongoose Traveller. It's no longer something you can self-improve. Though, it applies to all skills across the board and having a score that high would make a character pretty good at everything.

    The Boys season two (spoilers)

All the brooding this season is really hurting my enjoyment. They are finally doing something with The Deep and Huey seems to be out of his funk, even Homelander seems to have found his stride, but now we got Kimiko, Frenchie, and Billy down in a hole. It's probably only a matter of time until...

5E How do you roll, DM?

I use a dice roller on my PC so always hidden. Its not so much because I dont want the players to see the rolls, and more the convenience and speed of play it offers me as a GM.

Lovecraft Country (Spoilers for Episode 1)

Maybe, im certainly no expert on Lovecraft's work. As mentioned by another poster, perhaps vague would have been a better description for the comparison? All I know is that this show feels different than the lovecraft stories I have read. LC is bigger in scope, with a much more encompassing...

Lovecraft Country (Spoilers for Episode 1)

I actually liked the second episode better than the first. Had a very Get Out meets lovecraft vibe to it. I can see why some folks have an issue with it. This version is not subtle at all. Not capturing the right horror suspense feel, more like a weird mystery suspense story.

    Traveller RPG (Looking for Opinions)

I believe the issue with SOC goes well beyond just Aslan. If all species in Traveller were human, but distinctly different cultures, there might be enough shared ideology to make SOC workable across them. Though, if each species has its own cultural inclinations and morality system, than SOC is...

    Traveller RPG (Looking for Opinions)

This is exactly how I jumped into Traveller with my group. Like all Traveller material, I use what I like, make up what isnt there, and change what I dont like. The rule system has enough to be interesting, but is not so complex for a group to leap into.

    Traveller RPG (Looking for Opinions)

I dont have a ton of pre-Mongoose Traveller experience, so I appreciate the comments. @OP I'd agree that the genre engine is good for Mongoose Traveller, but the aliens are a weak point, particularly with the OTU setting. Our games are 90% human so it hasnt been an issue.

    Traveller RPG (Looking for Opinions)

Are you pulling your Aslan info from a supplement book? Based on the thorough description in Pirates of Drinax supplement, Aslan dont seem to operate the way you imply on Soc skill. They also created a long list of career options just for Aslan. To be fair, they basically just give you the same...

    Traveller RPG (Looking for Opinions)

Yeah you can really bork your stat rolls, but honestly having 1 strong physical stat (Str, Agi, End) and 1 strong mental attribute (Int, Edu, Soc) is enough to make a decent character in Traveller. Paying very close attention to skill tables and skill choices when you get to make them is...
