5E Eberron: Rising from the Last War Coming For D&D In November

Yeah, I'm not a fan of it either. It's generic floating heads, rather than anything that gives any kind of feeling as to what Eberron or the adventure contained is like. As overused as the Warforged hanging off a skyship over a lightning rail engine is, it at least gives you a crash course on...

General What are your Pedantic Complaints about D&D?

Pikes. Their weight is borderline absurd for what the weapon provides in game terms.

    5E Acquisitions, Inc.: First Impressions

I'll just be frank: I don't like Acq Inc. and even without the spells the impression I'm getting from talk of this book isn't making it sound like I should give it a shot. I know what I like in my games, and this book isn't it.

    5E Acquisitions, Inc.: First Impressions

Honestly, looking at the spell section just affirmed for me it's not the kinda book I want. I hope it works well for those who do like AI or its content, though.

5E The Final Announcement from The Descent Live Stream: Eberron Hardcover

Adding on with my own understanding of things: If I recall correctly when Mearls was explaining the plan on Twitter, the example he provided was that it'd have more emphasis on the Five Kingdoms and a reduced emphasis on Sharn relative to Wayfarer's.

    UA Unearthed Arcana: Sidekicks

Honestly, I'd pass on this. This basically solves none of the problems with running sidekicks as PCs. The retainer rules from Strongholds & Followers are much more elegant, even if they need a bit more fine-tuning still.

UA Unearthed Arcana August: Races of Ravnica

I was going to mention the bite, but ultimately didn't. However, here's my quick take on it: yawn. It does damage equal to a dagger without finesse. Most of the classes want a higher damage weapon, a weapon with a specific property, or just for the hit to land. In the case of the monk...

UA Unearthed Arcana August: Races of Ravnica

Some of these races have some neat lore behind them, but mechanically, only the Viashino and Simic Hybrid feel inspired (and the viashino loosely). There aren't any ability a Loxodon gets that's really unique to it. I can name a race for every trait it has (except keen smell, to which I'd point...

WotC D&D's Best Year Ever - But Hasbro's Goal Is For D&D e-Sports

I watched the source interview. The written article is based on misquoting. He was referring to Magic: The Gathering Arena as a possible E-sport, but in the same paragraph mentioned D&D livestreaming. There won't be a D&D E-sport, at least not in the foreseeable future.

UA Unearthed Arcana: Giant Soul Sorcerer

I haven't been able to figure out how much I like/dislike the mechanics, simply because for whatever reason, I can't get over the Giant origin. I get that it's a blessing, not a literal bloodline that hails from giants, but I've still never really associated Giants with magic, for some reason...

5E Why everyone think that Battlemaster is better than Samurai?

In the Banneret/PDK discussion: I was going to play one, but group friction caused me to leave right as we hit 3rd level, so I didn't get to test my hypothesis. I get the feeling it'll be subpar if you play it like a support class, but would still be effective if played as a fighter (mostly...

5E Why everyone think that Battlemaster is better than Samurai?

The most simple reason is that the BM manoeuvres can be used to boost your Damage when you hit, make a miss into a hit, add special effects on a hit, be used to take special actions in exchange for foregoing an attack... It's more versatile, and while each one is limited to affecting one attack...

    Opening Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes

I'm ok with the prevalence of the deities in the lore personally, because even real world mythology loves to blame everything on the gods meddling in the affairs of mortals. However, I might not use too much of the lore here, simply because I have my own plans for my world. That being said, the...

UA Spores, Brutes, and Inventors: Unearthed Arcana Brings You Three New Subclasses

I actually had a slightly different idea for metamagic on the wizard. Rather than it being 1/short rest, it should instead be something like it gets 1/3 the sorcery points the sorcerer gets, minimum of one. This would prevent a wizard from ever being able to use it on their best spell slots...

UA Spores, Brutes, and Inventors: Unearthed Arcana Brings You Three New Subclasses

I can see it working for An artificer, as a table of "unintended side effects." Say you're making a balm to coat on your fighter's sword for additional fire damage. It does that, but what if it also seems to feel soothing to the touch, to the point that you're certain it has the effects of calm...

UA Unearthed Arcana October 2017: Fiendish Options

I like the boons. Definitely might have to snag a few for the gnoll warbands plowing across the lands. I'm still iffy on breaking up tieflings on subrace lines, rather than doing more of what the SCAG did, and providing a mishmash of options.

Mike Mearls is polling about how much you'd pay for him to make you an AL legal custom subclass

https://twitter.com/mikemearls/status/909977249843003392 EDIT: I should at least clarify that it's technically a donation for Extra Life, but my overall feelings still stand On the one hand this seems kind of cool, but I don't know about the precedence this sets. It seems kind of wrong to be...

UA Unearthed Arcana: Feats for Races

It's a side effect of giving each race a "hat"; a predefined culture/personality. Trying to apply one to humans would cause more confusion than its worth, so worldbuilders shrug and just go "humans are the flexible ones." They end up filling a niche of a lack of niche. The fact that in old...

UA Unearthed Arcana: Feats for Races

Compared to all of the other UAs that have been released, this one really makes me glad that as a general rule I don't use UA material. Not because it's imbalanced, but because it has ramifications on worldbuilding that my world isn't designed to work around. Dragonborn don't have wings in my...

UA Unearthed Arcana: Get Better At Skills With These Feats

Right now I'm looking at what the first five levels should look like. I haven't quite got the exact levels for every feature pinned down just yet, but what I have in mind is: 1. early superiority dice (with the added benefit that you can give them to allies so they can use your manoeuvres...
