D&D 4E Running and 4E Demo this weekend, anyone have suggestions?

Yes, yes... a thousand time, yes. The biggest epiphany I had as a GM was learning that saying "no" was not as much fun as saying "yes, but...". There are very few things I have had to say no to outright in the last couple years. Everything else got a "yes, but..." and I outlined what would need...

D&D 4E Running and 4E Demo this weekend, anyone have suggestions?

A couple of things I have noticed from my demos: 1. Have fun. Seriously. When I am smiling and looking excited, the players respond and are generally more open to learning the rules in a "crash course" setting. 2. Have some props. I made power cards for all of the pregens and my players loved...

D&D 4E I think I know what my first Pre-Gen/NPC group will be for 4e...

That is what Mage Hand is for! Helps with the "heavy lifting". ;)

D&D 4E 4e, Gleemax, and DDI info from GAMA Trade Show

I don't always want my fiction to be Machiavellian and horrendously complicated. When I do, I read Jordan or Martin. Sometimes I like to go back and read some simpler, but just as enjoyable fiction - like the Azure Bonds trilogy. Alias, Finder, and Dragonbait may not be the most complicated...

    D&D 4E My 12th 4E Demo

Exactly. Those are the moments I live for as a GM. Those times where you can see it in their faces that they will remember this as a highlight of their role-playing careers. It is a great feeling, and completely justifies (to me, if not my wife) the inordinate time I take to plan and plot...

    D&D 4E Duskblades for 4e

Also keep in mind, this character can really load on the damage with this power. He has already taken Arcane Brute, so it would be 1[W] + Int (power) + Str (Arcane Brute) + 1d4 (Arcane Strike) + Str (Arcane Brute bonus to Arcane Strike) And he can do this with a greatsword/axe.

    D&D 4E Duskblades for 4e

Not really. :) Most damage bonuses we are seeing are in the range of 1-5 points. By letting the Duskblade add his strength SCORE, it could easily be 16-20 points added at first level. Making it strength*modifier* would bring it back in line.

    D&D 4E Duskblades for 4e

Modified Blade of Frost: Blade of Frost Duskblade Attack 1 You imbue your weapon with the ruthless energy of the north, and deliver a strike that numbs enemies to the core. At Will * Arcane, Cold, Weapon Standard Action Melee or Ranged weapon Target: One creature Attack: Str, or Dex vs. AC Hit...

    D&D 4E Duskblades for 4e

The first thing that comes to mind is to make other abilities more important. This is off-the-cuff, so I can't claim it is viable, or useful. Here it is anyway, though. Make the attack powers strength for melee, dexterity for ranged. Then make a follow-up rider on them that uses Int to inflict...

    D&D 4E "4E sucks" decry gnomes, half-orcs (humor)

I really wanted to walk out of GenCon with Necro books, but I guess I shall have to wait. Dirk fing blast. I fully trust it will be worth the wait. I have already informed my wife that roughly $100 a month of my paycheck is reserved solely for the purchase of WotC and Necromancer Games books...

    D&D 4E Duskblades for 4e

This is probably the best homebrew 4e class I have seen yet. I suppose the best thing I can say about it is that not only would I play it, but I would not have a problem with my players using it. :)

    D&D 4E 4e houserules

So you have it set that Burst n expands vertically and horizontally n and diagonally 1+(n-1)? Not a terribly difficult rule to implement and keeps the shape roughly the same. I like it. :)

    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

That is a good question. Wasn't there an announcement somewhere that halflings are getting a size boost up to around 4'? That could bump them up to the lower limit of Medium. I am still stuck thinking of a lot of things in 3.x terms.

    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

Hmm... 3e had the +1 AC canceling out the +1 to-hit. If they don't give the Small qualifier the to-hit in 4e, then there would nothing to balance the AC boost. Does that mean, aside from qualifying for feats, there is no gain to being Small any longer?

    D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

You, sir, are great. Let it be noted that I will be the second to take DWP (Dual Wielding Pompoms) as my human bonus feat. Maybe I can get a morale bonus - "Rah, rah, 4-e, rah!" :)

D&D 4E Keep on the Shadowfell specifics from Mearls (4e designer) .. new info on Page 2

That is very likely, good point. Based on how much real time Burning Plague and Raiders took to resolve encounters 3rd level is probably not happening in two weeks. :) Frankly, I am not preordering it to try to run my players through 2 weeks early at the cost of being able to make their *own*...

D&D 4E Keep on the Shadowfell specifics from Mearls (4e designer) .. new info on Page 2

That is what I understood as well. Each character can progress up to level 3, but at each level gain the powers, feats, etc are already spelled out. I completely understand why they are doing it this way, but I have to admit I was hoping for at least some level of customization. I still plan...

How D&D Was Saved and Made It To 4e

I was jumping around the interwebs and found some incredible articles. The first describes the god-awful way that TSR was run into the ground, by one of the programmers for the CD-ROM Core Rules. It also describes the reason that the 3.0 Character Generator was a failure...
