D&D 5E It's official, WOTC hates Rangers (Tasha's version of Favored Foe is GARBAGE)

Don't mind me. I'm here to add to the "dumb meme" pile.

    D&D 5E Miniature Collecting/Use and D&D

I collected Ral Partha boxed minis right after I got out of college. Still got these laying around in the factory shrink wrap.

    D&D 5E Bad Sage Advice?

Going strictly by RAW, which is typical of Sage Advice, it's technically correct. Each basic magical shield description says, "While holding this shield, you have a +X bonus to AC." If I had guess, RAI is likely the way most people run it (i.e. the shield must be donned). Regardless, I can't...

Critical Role Why Critical Role is so successful...

Critical Role, like most other forms of entertainment, succeeds in large part due to the large group of engaging and marketable personalities and talent. Mercer is a good DM, but if he had a flat, boorish group of players, the show would probably fizzle. If he was a mediocre or even subpar DM...

D&D 5E Is Intimidate the worse skill in the game?

For a mindful DM, it's more likely to enable multiple PCs to contribute to the social pillar in meaningful yet different ways instead of relying on a single face to dominate every social encounter. The bulk of physical and combat challenges typically aren't thwarted single-handedly or fall...

D&D 5E (Un)-Reliable Talent? How do you do it?

I'd only do that if also giving a minimum of 15 on a roll with advantage. Interesting quirk of the system: Reliable Talent does not affect passive scores.

    D&D 5E Monks Suck

In regard to Crawford's tweets regarding breakable items, it's worth emphasizing that the vulnerability of objects is first and foremost a DM tool, not a player facing mechanic.

    D&D General Next Generation VTT

My problems with using any VTT for enhanced environments are the same issues I have with highly detailed physical pieces like Dwarven Forge. The prep work is often very tedious. A limited library of basic assets causes most environments to have a cookie cutter look which leads to... The need...

D&D 5E Melee combat on the run

It is strange that the revised Opportunity Attack rule for a chase would seem to be completely negated by this outcome. Not a dispute (I don't have the rules nearby), just an observation.

D&D 5E Melee combat on the run

If I recall correctly, the rules don't define what "caught" means, leaving it up DM interpretation (i.e. the DM sets the win condition).

D&D 5E Melee combat on the run

If you're interested, I've got expanded rules for retreat, evasion, and pursuit (which I'd like to eventually put on the DM's Guild) that build off the existing Chase rules in the DMG . I'd rather not post them for general public consumption as they're currently incomplete, but I can send you a...

D&D General Hey, are we all cool with having to buy the same book twice, or what?

I find Beyond to be far more useful than PDFs and the stuff goes on sale frequently, so I don't particularly mind.

Critical Role PSA: You are not Matt Mercer

There are notable actual play/live play RPG podcasters out there that have voiced those same thoughts, particularly as they grow in popularity. Even without cameras, the microphones and the awareness of an audience (live or otherwise) changes the atmosphere. For instance, the crew of The Glass...

    D&D 5E Fireball tweak idea

I don't think an uncontrolled variable radius on one spell would matter much in terms of creating interesting choices. The players willing to take the risk likely wouldn't care much about collateral damage. Those unwilling to take the risk would simply use less efficient alternatives.

    D&D 5E A use for True Strike

This. True Strike seems to be more of narrative driven spell in 5e. It's useful in situations when DPR is moot because you simply, absolutely need to hit/can't afford to miss. It's for those story moments when you're outmatched or out maneuvered and you only have one arrow slaying, one...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Revisits Psionics

The burnout die looks to be a twist on the Usage Die from The Black Hack perhaps further inspired by magical burnout in Darker Dungeons. Regardless, it's a cool mechanic that gives psionics a unique feel.

D&D 5E Object Interaction and Spell Material Components

FYI: https://www.sageadvice.eu/2018/10/11/grabbing-an-arcane-focus-from-belt-counts-as-your-1-free-object-interaction-or-is-a-part-of-casting-action/ In summary, Crawford says retrieving an arcane focus or material components is not considered part of the casting. EDIT: I voted for Option 1 -...

D&D 4E Presentation vs design... vs philosophy

And some of the most poorly organized rulebooks I've ever seen. For the record, I really like Shadowrun. I just hate using the books.
