D&D 2E Let’s Look At The Old Ravenloft Boxed Set!

With the constraint that you are limited to English material and all translations are lost in time (and licensing). Admittedly, the amount of Ravenloft material that was e.g. translated to German was also limited (as it was for all settings except for the Realms).

Tracking Down the Elusive Shift: A Review

Elusive Shift was probably my top RPG(-related) book of the last years. Having started playing only in the 90s, I never realized how long some of these debates and tensions have been going on. Definitely a recommended read for anyone remotely interested in a meta perspective on RPGs.

Is The One Ring 2E Kickstarter going to break the records?

One of the things to consider is that Kickstarter ends up on credit cards, so the pay cheque has less of an effect. Also, a thing that's relatively new IMO is the longer pre-launch phases, where hype is already built up and people get notified immediately on launch (plus, once you have backed a...

Is The One Ring 2E Kickstarter going to break the records?

The only (potential) complaint is that they do not sell their (often quite lovely) special editions outside Kickstarter, and sometimes there are Kickstarter exklusives (e.g. Tales from the Loop soundtrack). Otherwise Free League handles Kickstarters quite well IMO.

Is The One Ring 2E Kickstarter going to break the records?

That was also my favourite bit from the Q&A session so far (big fan of the legends in FL).

Is The One Ring 2E Kickstarter going to break the records?

I'm happy the campaign is doing well, but it's a bit weird to see it smash through so many stretch goals. I know a few people who really liked the first edition, but I never had the feeling that it was really a big title. That being said, of course I threw my money at them for one of the fancy...

Check Out The One Ring 2E's Pre-Kickstarter Video!

Will be interesting to see how well their styles work together (I like both of them a lot, but I am a bit unsure about the mix).

Free Secrets of Blackmoor: The True History Of Dungeons & Dragons Watch It Now online

I hope the film comes back - it was really a nice summary of Arneson's contributions. I had a few minor technical issues (subtitles overlaying info boxes, some documents shown too short), but generally it was both entertaining and informative.

D&D General Have You Actually Read the DM's Guide?

I read the 5e DM's Guide cover to cover shortly after it came out. It's actually a decent book, though a bit unfocused and lacking means to quickly find specific rule variants. For other editions, I mostly skimmed through the books if at all. When I played them, DM's guides were not really a...

D&D General Your Thoughts on LoS, Dynamic Lighting on VTTs

While I can see its use, I don't use dynamic lighting. Or most other features of VTT platforms for that matter. For me (and the rest of the group I play with) it emphasizes the "board-/video-gamey" aspect too much, so we have settled on Owlbear Rodeo with just map sharing, tokens and color codes...

D&D 5E What are your D&D buying habits?

I bought every book WotC until end of 2017, and a larger number 3rd party things. But about 2 years ago, I had to admit to myself that I lost the appetite for newer editions of D&D. I would probably still be interested in PDFs of some releases, but since these are not for sale for this edition...

    D&D 5E D&D Team Productivity?

I have to say the publication schedule is one of the things they do better than they did with 3e (which, for me, collapsed under the weight of its numerous publications). Now if we talk about content, then they are not publishing what I want them to - as @tetrasodium already notes, you get a...

D&D 5E The New D&D Book: Candlekeep Mysteries: 17 Mystery Adventures [UPDATED!]

Certainly not what I expected. Will be interesting to learn if these are actually new adventures or conversion of older ones like previous adventure collections. In any case, a few good investigate adventures for D&D would be appreciated.

EN World is 20 Years Old!

Congratulations! Running a site over 20 years and maintaining an active community is no small feat. Plus, ENWorld works really well as a new aggregator for all things RPG.

    Which decade would you choose?

Pretty easily the 90s. The wall in Berlin is down and Germany just re-unified, but social security nets are still pretty tight and you can still hope to buy a house with a middle class income. Also IT is starting to spread, so my skills are not totally useless. On the media side, there's solid...

Worlds of Design: What the Future Holds for RPGS - Part 2

Two things: 1) Both for myself and people I play with, the session length preferences vary between online and offline play. At the table, I prefer longer sessions (4-5 hours) - to a certain extent because of the necessary driving, but mostly because I do not get exhausted so quickly. For online...

Worlds of Design: What the Future Holds for RPGs - Part 1

I basically stopped playing video games a few years back, not because I don't like them, but at least the ones I like require some longer stretches of uninterrupted time, and that's hard to find these days. Once in a while, I will launch up an indie game or maybe buy the newest Uncharted title...

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2021

Two things I'd nominate have already been mentioned (TOR 2e, Rivers of London, Twilight 2K). Additionally: Old-School Essentials - Advanced Fantasy, Necrotic Gnome Publisher Website, Kickstarter Page Open Quest, 3rd Edition, D101 Games System Website, Kickstarter Page Trophy RPG, The Gauntlet...

D&D General Poll: Combat or Roleplay?

I could probably do without combat (not that I wanted to completely discard it), but not without conflict in TTRPGs. That being said, I'm happy with only a fraction of the mechanics that modern iterations of D&D offer.

Do you consider learning a new game to be unpleasant work?

As others have mentioned, it will depend on the quality of the writing and how well the content is structured, and also to a large extent how excited I am about the game. In general, reading the a rule book of a system I am excited to play is type 2 fun - it mostly feels good only in retrospect...
