D&D 5E Unearthed Arcana: Gothic Lineages & New Race/Culture Distinction

My apologies, but when I said previously "I don't know how WoTC is planning on handling cultures in the future." I meant that in general. Not just for character creation via choosing your race/lineage. That is why your response of "What WotC said is that they are not planning on culture at all...

D&D 5E Which content is exclusive to each of the official Eberron books?

I can confirm Exploring Eberron is AMAZING. But I may be a sucker. And yeah, I don't remember there being much in Wayfinder's that was unique. It might have a different phrasing, or a slightly different bit of lore, but the big beats are the same in both.

A perfect example. That is amazing.

No. They said they were not planning on including the cultural pieces alongside the lineages. That is very different.

D&D 5E Which content is exclusive to each of the official Eberron books?

I do know that Wayfinder's provided different stats for the different Elves, but Rising did not. I think the Patron stuff is exclusive to Rising. Personally, I think you are fine reading Rising cover to cover, since I am fairly sure it covers more material.

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

I mean, sure, the player themselves likely isn't scared for their life, but that doesn't mean I haven't been able to unsettle and worry them, that I haven't been able to make them feel desperate and... scared. I can definitely see this being a style thing, but I'm just saying it happens.

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

You can scare players. It takes some work and some investment on the player end, but you can do it. It has happened. But it requires dread, not jump scares.

D&D 5E Unearthed Arcana: Gothic Lineages & New Race/Culture Distinction

The only thing missing from what you want in the new design is a proficiency that is based purely in culture. I don't know how WoTC is planning on handling cultures in the future. But, you have the majority of what you want as options already.

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

Mmmm, yes and no. In general I've got no issue with fear affects in combat. In fact, in some games I've been in they created decent situations. But, in others, we have had combats where the character's fear prevented them from fighting in the combat. Like, one exmple coming to mind was a long...

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

I agree with this. If you have players who can act, then it can work, but when we did our trip to Vecna's realm some of the players were afflicted with despair and it was supposed to be a "secret". DM pulled them into a private chat, ect ect, no idea what exactly had happened to them. Then...

D&D 5E Unearthed Arcana: Gothic Lineages & New Race/Culture Distinction

Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but now if a race was designed like an Aasimar was in Volo's you said you would take offense at that, because lineages should have proficiencies. So, you weren't advocating for both options being available, you were making a value judgement that if they don't...

D&D 5E Unearthed Arcana: Gothic Lineages & New Race/Culture Distinction

Just like you take issue with the Aasimar, Halflings, Dragonborn, Tieflings, Firbolgs, Tritons, Goblins, Kobolds, and Yuan-Ti who lack any proficiencies at all in a noticeable way? Because none of those races gets proficiencies in anything.

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

I do understand that, but I think it is fair to at least say that Ravenloft tries to be horror. Maybe you think it doesn't succeed, but that doesn't mean they weren't trying to a lot of old school horror vibes. Horror is just about as hard as comedy, because one misstep and the entire thing...

Okay, I am now realizing there is a new feature of the forum where you can't see the quotes of the people who are blocking you. I didn't even realize I was being blocked, but it is the only explanation for this sudden madness where everyone is just speaking into the void and responding to...

I don't want this to come across as an attack, because you have been very polite, but your posting style is making it incredibly hard to follow your lines of thought. Like, just a bit ago...posts #815 and #816, you quoted Aldarac, quoting the exact same post both times. Your first post was to...

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

Ah, okay, see the more details I get the more sense this makes once again. This a very different type of presentation than I originally thought Honestly, it is becoming more and more that I know so little that I wouldn't even know what to ask about, and it seems that you really need those...

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

I think there is a difference between emotionally affecting people who survived a tragedy, by portraying the horror of that event as horrific, and affecting people emotionally because they feel like you are misrepresenting a cultural hero. I agree that using real world inspiration is...

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

Maybe part of this is the idea of size. I think your comparison to England is apt. You could easily have a lot of islands the size of England. Which is fairly large in terms of the amount of space to work with. Instead of a bunch of islands more the size of say, the Canary islands, which are...

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

It could also be because you keep referring to "the line" while I am trying to talk about "the setting" and I think those are two different things. From the perspective of "the line" then you are talking about every single thing ever released that tied into Ravenloft, but from the perspective...

D&D 5E Everything We Know About The Ravenloft Book

I guess it was the memory detail that tripped me up. Creating an entirely new section of landmass is such a huge thing, it alters everything, but I guess if you can literally rewrite the memories of every person in every domain, then it is less of a thing. I guess I'm a little more confused...
