D&D 5E Too Few Player Options During Combat?

That's an interesting assertion, right in the face of the OP, who says, "Exactly - my player's cannot stand fiat rulings." Thank you for your personal estimations on the issue, though.

D&D 5E Too Few Player Options During Combat?

I think many GMs may not rule this way - ask before you depend on this. Also, note that it is 50 GP per vial. Hit with 6 vials? That's 300 GP. Miss with 6 vials? That's 300 GP... Also consider what happens to whoever is carrying this stuff when, say, the fall, and the vial breaks and...

D&D 5E Too Few Player Options During Combat?

In 5e, I am much more likely to say "yes and..." to requests to influence or interact with the environment than I am to requests to directly put modifiers on a major enemy with ad hoc actions. The guy is running away - if you want to shoot him in the leg to get a special benefit, I am apt to...

D&D General Nobody likes an edition warrior.

So, sorry about putting a damper on the funny stuff, but... If you cite a designer saying, "Yeah, that BigPoster on GamingMessageBoards, we heard what they said and thought it was the right way to go," you'd have a point. But we have seen no clear evidence that this has happened with D&D, at...

D&D 5E Too Few Player Options During Combat?

So, "bad ruling" neglects the idea of context. The ruling could have been just fine in its original use, but turns out to be overpowered when used regularly, or interacts in unexpected ways with spells or abilities not in the original use. The "shoot them in the leg" thing, for example, can...

D&D 5E Too Few Player Options During Combat?

That would depend on your players - I think repeatedly making rulings, and then rejecting them as precedent, can be a major failure of the GM to meet player expectations. It also turns the game into a bit "mother may I" if they have to ask for a ruling each and every time.

D&D 5E Too Few Player Options During Combat?

Because, what seems okay at the spur of the moment may later be a source of many balance issues.

We will after the Last Airbender RPG comes out.

D&D General Nobody likes an edition warrior.

Edition warriors love each other. There must always be two, or there will be no argument. And the argument seems to be the point.

There are some Fierce Creatures inside the Hex that have to be dealt with...

    D&D 5E Players railroading dungeonmasters

I've seen a suggestion that a character's backstory should be no more than (Char Level)2 paragraphs long. I have also recently seen the following meme: But broadly, I've never seen much problem with elaborate character backstories - if the players want to hand me ways to make them feel more...

    So, Wandavision?

I believe the words "bigger fish to fry" come to mind.

I don't know that his paternity has ever been established.

So, you want an app from at least a known provider? How about - Adobe Spark? https://spark.adobe.com/make/photo-editor/ Which is just my Google-fu, searching on "photo editing" and scrolling down to the first major provider in the list. There's also Photoshop Express on the Apple store as well.

    So, Wandavision?

Note - in the comics her son is not Mephisto, or the literal devil. He's just even a bigger jerk than Agatha is.

D&D 5E Too Few Player Options During Combat?

So I have to ask, is the fight you're presenting them particularly dynamic? If you present them with a big bag of hit points that does melee attacks, yes, they may tactically feel that "walk up and hit it repeatedly" is really the only thing to do. And they probably aren't wrong. Do you...

Well, then I'm only as useful as my Google-fu, which I am sure you have as well.

    So, Wandavision?

Mod note: It is interesting to speculate how you think a passive but openly stated accusation of bad faith argument fits in with the order to treat folks with respect. Hint: It does not. Next time, if you feel someone is arguing in bad faith, disengage. For now, I'll disengage you form...

    So, Wandavision?

Yeah. That's not supported in the text. Agnes is out to get information from Wanda, not specifically to cause her pain. Minor correction - to wake up and tell Agness how she's doing it. While Agnes may not specifically out to hurt Wanda, personally, this is not for Wanda's benefit. It is...
