What is the point of GM's notes?

So I strongly agree with both your post and @uzirath's. With yours specifically as you touch on Skilled Play which is something I'm concerned with, and with uzirath's regarding the focus of resources. In BitD (I'm not sure if this is the flashback mechanic or something else), there is the thing...

D&D General Discuss: Combat as War in D&D

You're referring to a mechanical process that limits or some logical reason through the fiction (i.e. DM decides)? D&D is very limited in a great many things. It is its strength and weakness.

@Snarf Zagyg you forgot to include a + thread.

D&D 5E How to defeat creatures with legendary actions?

What @tetrasodium and @Nefermandias rings true. 5e, does not work like some of the older editions, where the monsters on their own could kill, more often than not one requires to homebrew the monsters, create house rules and/or use GM fiat to seriously threaten or kill PCs. House Rules I know...

What is the point of GM's notes?

So just to bring it a little back to the OP, one way I use GM notes to assist me is with Skilled Play over the course of the campaign. Just to be clear I’m not referring to combat strategy or old school dungeoneering when discussing Skilled Play over the course of a campaign. I’m zeroing on...

D&D 5E Long Rests vs Short Rests

We tried 1. Standard - Forced a high magic setting which I disliked as a DM, fully powered characters all the time 2. Conversion of SR to LR - Didn't solve the above issues 3. Gritty System - Players were frustrated, hurt verisimilitude, pacing issues 4. Die Roll for Recovery of Abilities tied...

Level Up (A5E) More Regions (Now with Regions of Dread)

Like I said in the other thread, the Journey supplement could be a complete stand-alone project. There is so much goodness one could include.

    Resuming Face-to-Face Gaming

Like others have said audio will be your primary concern - which I found was the issue when playing online via discord or other. The table just has to engage more respectfully with one another as opposed to in-person. It is an adjustment and will slow the game down in parts. Combat visual is...

D&D 5E Why are 5E Giants Huge size?

Sorry, I've been popping in and out of this convo so have not been following as closely - what are the secondary modifiers you are referring to? And second that Cthulhu book as a little too pricey for me right now.

    D&D 5E [+] A Whole New World!

Slight correction me thinks, the first para speaks to races/people, the second refers to classes. I don't think you intended that, right?

D&D 5E Why are 5E Giants Huge size?

Temple of Elemental Evil provides the opportunity to work with various factions against the others. Ofc none of my tables ever took that path. :ROFLMAO:

D&D 5E Why are 5E Giants Huge size?

A slight quibble, the titans in Greek mythology were the children of the primordials.

Level Up (A5E) Adapting Journey for different Campaigns

Personally, I think one could create a full stand-alone supplement on the Journey system alone.

D&D General [+] Ravenloft, horror, & safety tools...

I understand your position but I thought this thread was about safety tools for things that actually traumatise people. It certainly does feel like the OP is threadcrapping their own thread (which is ironic, given the meta thread created) when we are talking about issues which have nothing to do...

Maybe because its in the word safety

    Fair enough.

D&D General [+] Ravenloft, horror, & safety tools...

I take it this is a comprehensive list for all RPGs rather than once specific to Ravenloft as per the OP. EDIT: Why does Genocide get a blank while Racism gets a line?

What is the point of GM's notes?

What do we imagine immersion in a character would mean? I'm merely asking because your post has drawn a distinction between immersion in the story, immersion in a character and immersion in a setting. It is not something I have ever thought before.
