[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

That's the one! Another Internet ghost is resurrected.

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

First off, I loved the confessional mechanic, and I regret I didn't use it approximately 1 1/2 hours into the game. I think your pacing was dead on. There's something in particular that happened with that game which I've seen in a few other games that I've been thinking about, and it seems to...

    Boston Gameday: October 2nd!

That was fantastic. Emily and I greatly enjoyed meeting everyone. And I definitely look forward to gaming with you folks again.

Wow! That would be beyond awesome. Also, I should really thank you for the questions. Right now Em and I are finishing up our post-GenCon vacation, but as soon as we get home we're going to assemble the PDF with clarifications. So your questions will hopefully benefit everyone with the game.

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

Hearing news like this really makes my day. You should completely restack the tower. And then scramble to use some powers to refill the Courage Pile. The monster's powers should get enough pulls going that the tower will get dangerous again real soon. You move in turns. However, whenever you...

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

I know you're all waiting on news about the PDF. Sorry, I've got none to share at the moment. But I do have this project I've been working on with the fiancée that I think you all might be intrigued by. (Wow, that cover really goes well with the forum's color scheme.) It's a roleplaying board...

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

This is indeed my favorite thread in all of the Internet. Which probably makes me something of a narcissist, but I can live with that. A PDF does not exist yet, though I have seen one! So perhaps soon? I believe I answered you in an e-mail, but in case anyone else from across an ocean is...

[Epimas] A Very Special Epimas Special

Epimas, as you well know, is the traditional day of game giving. Every year, on December 24th, friends and family gather round an exchange games, which they then play well into the night. Often making new friends or settling old scores. It's a most magical time of the year. Black & Green Games...

ENnies: should "Best Free Product" include Quick-starts?

I prefer to think of the Best Free Product category as the place they've sequestered Trial & Terror from all the other ENnie nominees--for their own protection, of course. Cause it absolutely would tear up the place. I'm looking at you, Best Cartography and Podcast. And don't get me started on...

This is what I love about ENworld: far better advice than I could muster.

Presenting the nominees for the 2009 ENnie Awards

A great big thank you to all the judges and congratulations to all the other participants. I'm absolutely flabbergasted to see Trial & Terror on that list!

Besides, I hosted that game while choking on my own blood. That's ambiance well above the call of duty. In most cases, Jenga keeps you honest.

When the game designer does it, that means it's not cheating!

    Espionage RPGs

Another out of print espionage well worth checking out if you can find it is Victory Games' James Bond 007. It's not perfect, but it's random encounter table is. You could probably generate the entire adventure randomly on it. Plus the chase rules are delicious.

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

Curses! Now I'll have to start all over again and design a new, sexier game--perhaps using spin the bottle. Whew, a nine hour game would run me a bit loopy, too. When Dread really shines, it can be a bit physically draining--especially in the long haul. The 3 to 4 hour mark is a good place to...

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

I'm sorry, I just have to geek out about this. So there will be an Adult Swim bump related to a Dread game? Cause that might make it all worthwhile. Also, I'm sorry that the sense of dread was not so prevalent in your game. Dread, like all horror games, thrives when players (like the stars) are...

D&D versus social anxiety disorder (updated 8/20/14)

You might want to try Breaking the Ice or Shooting the Moon, both of which can be played with two players and are specifically designed to help people get over some of these issues. Another avenue, which may turn out to be disastrous, would be to try a slightly more competitive storytelling...
