Pay What You Want (But Please Pay Something!)

If you, as the producer, are unable or unwilling to put a value on your product then how do you expect the consumer to do so? I find PWYW irritating. I refuse to get PWYW products just because they annoy me. If I did I'd pay zero just out of principle. Please put a value on your products...

    Geekdom Takes a Bow

You're describing pop culture. Star Wars has been super popular for over 40 years. Geekdom, at least to me, has to have some element of unfashionability or unpopularity. Anyone who had the courage to play DnD back in the 70s is a geek. Geeks follow their own star, not the crowd. Just being into...

    Scenario with a Dragon's Lair?

I really want to thank everyone for their input. It was extremely helpful and very constructive. I am still looking at options but there are more of these lairs than I thought. This article is fairly comprehensive...

    Scenario with a Dragon's Lair?

It is ironic but most Dungeons and Dragons adventures don't feature dragons. Too powerful. I am looking for a 5 to 6 hour adventure that features an assault on a dragon's lair, with the goal of slaying the dragon and taking its hoard. I have browsed about a bit and can't seem to find what I...

Stranger Things and D&D at Last: A Review

Cool idea but it is just not well done, especially as compared to Mines of Phandelver, which may be the best 5e adventure ever and a great way to start playing the game.

Worlds of Design: “Old School” in RPGs and other Games – Part 2 and 3 Rules, Pacing, Non-RPGs, and G

Judging by the universal mugging lewpuls has been subjected to I think he might be on to something. I don't actually agree with lewpuls' major argument about attitude. Personally, I think the larger difference between old and new school are the rules and specifically the danger level and...

Remember, Remember, The Fifth Of November... Politics & Intrigue in RPGs

Chivalry & Sorcery, an rpg from the 70s, had a strong political component to the game. Very realistic, too, as I recall.

    Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Dragonmarks

This is a bit off-topic and I am not faulting the views of this writer in any way but is anyone else tired of the petty racism of the D&D world? If I had a dime for every snide comment directed towards an elf or dwarf player character by another player character, I'd be a rich man. With all of...

Creating a More Immersive D&D Experience

I find music, decor, and scents to be distractions. A quiet, relaxing room with conveniently located drinks and snacks and a small group of interested, enthusiastic players who understand the spirit of the game are all you need for total immersion. And of course a good story.

How Long Before the Digital Dam Breaks?

Thanks for writing. I really enjoy Zweihander and we've recently started a campaign. I am glad the product has done well. I consider it to be a high quality RPG with excellent writing, great art, and a cool design. My players love the grim and perilous feel to it. Thanks again, one of your...

How Long Before the Digital Dam Breaks?

To be specific, the last I looked was when Zweihander was on sale for $4.99 on drivethru deal of the day. I am not particularly knowledgable about the economics of the RPG industry but from what I've heard it's pretty competitive. If you are making $7 from a book that took many months to...

How Long Before the Digital Dam Breaks?

As a GM, I increasingly find that PDFs have more utility than printed books. They are easier to search and access. Creating adventures is made easier when you can just cut and paste monster stats. I prefer to have both printed books and PDFs. I enjoy books because they are real, have greater...
