OOC why didn't you run the B2 module?

    Playtest House Rules/Revision Suggestions

I get the feeling that people are confused about what a playtest is.

Help! I can't reach anything! (The immobilized Warpriest's lament)

Then don't play a warpriest, maybe? Some of these laments remind me of students asking the professor what's going to be on the final. The whole concept behind party makeup is that not everyone can do everything.

    Fighting The Gods!

Listen to Jester and tikktikk. I've tried one offs in epic tier and it has consistently been a disaster. I'd strongly advise running it for 3 or 4 players. Any more than that and it'll be insanity trying to figure out all of the triggered actions. Remember the first time somebody spent an action...

Planning my campaign (renamed from "Need a 1st level adventure")

I can't recommend The Slaying Stone enough. It's super fun, way open ended, and will introduce the orcs that they'll meet down the line. It's probably my favorite published module.

Pulling up a rope... with a PC attached

Cleric "climbs" at half speed, so it'll take 2 rounds to get the whole way up. Cleric needs to spend a standard action to hold on - unless your players are clever enough to keep a robber's ladder tied into their rope. During that time, the knight needs both hands for this, but probably doesn't...

D&D 4E In D&D 4e, is there any ability by Enemies that will silence a caster?

IIRC, there are some Vecna-flavored baddies who can prevent you from using at-will, encounter, or daily powers. Can't seem to remember where I saw that though. Perhaps Thunderspire?

    D&D 4E Trying 4E Again

I just finished running HS1, and it was the most fun I've had running a game in a really long time. So wonderfully open ended, and it has the possibility for a TPK lurking around every corner. The new monster stat blocks are fantastic. My primary game is at level 18 right now, so this level 1...

    Psionics Too Psi-Fi?

To me, I associate psionics with Akira and RIFTS, neither of which are very Greyhawkey or traditionally D&Dlike. But I love the 4e psionics. I built a great party with a pair of elf siblings: younger psionic sister and protective older ranger brother. Great flavor, and I think it fits great in...

    Favorite Warlord Moments?

I think warlords are awesome, and make a huge difference in terms of party effectiveness. However, they aren't a whole lot of fun to play, as you don't actually do much yourself. Commander's Strike Is awesome for taking down big guys, and the inspiring words keep the team alive, but the player...

    Reduced Monster Hit Points Results

I've been using the 50% HP / 200% damage tweak for the past few sessions. I think it's great, but it does have major problems. Fast combat is awesome. In a four hour session, we might have 3 or 4 combats, lots of exploration and roleplaying and storytelling. Last night we had a bunch of...

    Wherefore "mini-less" D&D assumptions?

Actually, I guess I should mention that our last session was our first experience with mini-less combat in 4e. We are playing an Eberron game, and I did a very loose conversion of Grasp of the Emerald Claw. Because they are exploring giant ruins, it is utterly impossible to draw out all the...

    Wherefore "mini-less" D&D assumptions?

I agree completely. My players have started to understand a loose vocabulary - d6s are almost always minions, d4s tend to be stabby little lurkers, d8s skirmishers, etc. It is not consistent, but in general the bigger the die the bigger looking the threat. I'll usually use a mini for the BBEG.

Scary Combat: 1/2 HP and 2x Damage

So in the hopes of making combat both more tense and take less time, I tried the "cut the monsters HP in half and double their damage" trick. I think I really liked it - basically nobody can go toe to toe for more than a couple rounds because three or four solid hits will bring anybody down...

The new, shiny "Stuff I Have/Would Ban" thread!

You are totally right. I should think before I post. :) That being said I don't have a problem with the bracers/armbands. If they want to give up all the other cool options for a static +2 to damage, that's fine. And sorcerers can dual the whole dual implement thing to fill their damage...

The new, shiny "Stuff I Have/Would Ban" thread!

Never. They attack will and reflex, which are almost always at least 2 less than AC.

    Seekers of the Ashen Crown

This is tough one for new GMs. I don't have the booklet with me, or I'd do a walkthrough. But be ready for it to take a while. Does anyone in the party have an extraordinary perception bonus?

Monster bonus damage on multiple attacks?

I think that this is decided by the context. If the wizard just leveled 5 minions with some well placed 'burning hands', then the halflings cry 'SPELLCASTER!' and focus fire until either the wizard is dead or the party striker drops them. But that's how I run my games. If the monsters are...
