If you wanted to catch Star Trek Prodigy but haven't yet, better watch it soon!

Paramount+, which had renewed Prodigy for a second season, has not only cancelled it - but has decided to remove the series from its platform entirely. It might get picked up by another streaming service, or it might not. As of now, it will be gone from Paramount+ sometime next week. Details here.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 1 available for free!

Paramount+ has decided to put the ENTIRE first season on their Youtube Channel. Link is to the first episode - but they are all available. It's on the official channel, no shenanigans. So If you wanted to check it out - now's a pretty good time to do that!

D&D 5E Question for those that use the Gritty Realism rest variant from the DMG.

The gritty realism rest variant: Short rest 8 hours; Long rest 7 days. What do you do with races that have a shortened long rest (Elves are the obvious example as they require only 4 hours, but there are also a few that have a 6 hour long rest)? Is that benefit just ignored, or are there other...

Spelljammer light of xaryxis, what are your thoughts (spoilers for the adventure are almost certain)

I just finished a read throughout of this adventure and was curious what others thought of it. The Spelljammer thread is fairly general, so wanted a more focused thread. My thoughts (a bit random): It is COMPLETELY linear. There is no deviation from the forced plot at all and any group that...

D&D 5E Is it just me or are Harengons really (maybe a little too) good?

Was just messing around with some character creation and took a look at the Harengon (basically rabbit person). Stat bonus is the now standard +2/+1 or +1/+1/+1, so nothing unusual there. Then they get a +Prof bonus to initiative. Ok, that's good, but not huge except for some builds that focus...

    D&D 5E Counterspelling a ritual (spell).

Seems pretty obvious, but thought I'd check if anyone thinks differently. Counterspell says "You attempt to interrupt a creature in the process of casting a spell..." So, it seems obvious that you can counterspell a ritual (spell) at any point from when the caster starts to just before the...

D&D 5E 9 Things "Pro" DMs Do That You shouldn't

So in a bit of procrastination (also because I'm trying to help my 14 year old who's DMing for his D&D club and would much rather hear advise from a random YouTuber than me!), I happened on this video. And I think I agree with every point. Summed up they are, Pro DM's do this, you shouldn't: 1...

D&D 5E Which characters are the DPR (damage per round) leaders at your table(s)?

In another thread @Hussar observed that in his experience in 5e, casters' (specifically casters that can put out big AoE such as wizards and sorcerers) overall damage output is higher than martials' overall damage output and that that's just a given. That has not been my experience. I've found...

D&D General Consequences of serious failure... other than death

We often talk about death as the consequence of the PCs failing to stop the BBEG or the PCs failing their objective when 1 or more PCs die etc. - and that's the consequence. But, IMO, death of a PC isn't the most interesting consequence. Sure that PCs story is over, but the player introduces a...

D&D General What is your roll with your gaming group (or groups)

Just curious to see whether people, on this board, mostly DM mostly play etc. And a quick search didn't reveal a similar question/poll. To clarify: If you are in multiple groups, consider them as a whole (so, for example, if you exclusively DM one group and exclusively play in another with both...

D&D General Bad gaming experiences and how they made you a better player/GM...

I just recounted a truly bad gaming experience (in another thread) but, bad as it was, it helped with my GMing. I assume there are countless similar stories. So here's one of mine: One of my players had been itching to GM Shadowrun, and frankly I needed a break (running high level 3e weekly...

D&D 5E I reject your reality and substitute my own!

So how many abilities actually allow a player to do this to the DM? I can think of 3 of the top of my head : 1. Portent - the obvious one that allows the diviner to stick in one of his rolls; 2. The lucky feat; 3. The urchin ability to take only half the time in navigating a city. Quite...

D&D 5E What rule(s) do you tend to ignore?

Either because you don't want to be bothered with it, don't like it, or for whatever reason, what rule (s) do you generally just ignore? And why? 2 I can think of off hand for my group: I allow the shield master bonus attack at any time (only seen the feat once in many years and doing it this...

D&D 5E Primeval Awareness vs. Nondetection or Mind Blank

Primeval Awareness detects the presence of aberrations, celestials, dragons, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead. Nondetection and Mind Blank block divination magic. RAW seems pretty obvious - Primeval Awareness is not listed as divination and is never even described as such - so should work...

D&D General Damage by class instead of by weapon-anyone tried this?

As the title says. I'm just thinking about this - hadn't really thought about implementing it - but it has it's appeal. Something like: Wizard, Sorc, warlock: d4 cleric, rogue: d6 Martial other than fighter: d8 Fighter: d10 Note die type (and who's at that type) is a bit to completely...

D&D 5E Do you allow a spell to be identified before counterspelling?

So, counterspell is coming up more and more in my group. I've been letting the spellcasters know the spell cast before counterspelling. But I'm thinking of stopping that. Basically they know a spell is cast, and they have to decide whether to counterspell before knowing it (This is per...

D&D 5E question on lower level spells in higher level slots

My reading of the rules is that a lower level spell (say 1st level magic missile) upcast to a higher level slot (say 7th level) becomes that level of spell - the magic missile is treated as a 7th level spell in all respects - Including affecting a monster that's not affected by 6th and lower...

D&D General Common gaming clichés (and how to subvert them)

Some D&D situations/tropes are so cliché that you want to groan/run away the moment you encounter them! With that in mind, how about listing out those situations/encounters but adding a twist that turns it from a cliché to a fun memorable experience. So list one (or more if you really want)...

D&D General Great and not so great setting specific sourebooks/modules

I haven't seen a related thread (if there is one - please point me to it!) Just want some examples of setting specific sourcebooks or modules that you think fit the thread title. Sourcebooks/modules that do a great job of representing the setting - making you immediately want to play in that...
