One of my fond memories of the early days of AD&D were modules like "S1: White Plume Mountain." The map included with that adventure referenced things that did not yet exist in AD&D lore, like Dragotha, the Undead Dragon and was very evocative (of course, most things I've seen drawn by Erol Otus were evocative).

Perhaps my memory sucks, but I seem to recall rumors that the artifact Blackrazor in that adventure had some sort of counterpart from a different adventure. Is this just faulty memory, from a time when people just made up stuff and presented as facts about the game?

I don't recall hearing anything about counterparts to the other artifacts in that adventure (Whelm and umm...that other one), just Blackrazor.

Wave!

I don't recall anything about a counterpart to Blackrazor, but someone like grodog might be a better resource for this question.

In Return to Whiteplume Mountain that was done in 2e they had one or two more artifacts but I don't think they would be Blackrazor's opposite.

I don't remember that counterpart to Blackrazor, but I'll look through my old modules.

I did find this pdf at the WotC that may be of interest:

Also I read somewhere that the PC game Balder's Gate II has Blackrazor in it so maybe they did a good version to stick in the game.

Thanks

OK, it could have been just one of those cases where someone was just making stuff up and saying they *knew* it was so because they wanted it to be true (like the people who tried to tell me they *knew* Star Wars: Episode 1 would include a young Han Solo because they heard from a friend of their brother's girlfriend's sister that this guy knew someone who wrote something on a website about what his brother's friend's cousin said).

Funny how there was as much misinformation about things back in the 80s before we all had the Internet as there is today.
