Land of Eem and Call of Cthulhu were the big winners at this year’s Origins Awards. The awards, handed out by GAMA and the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design, included two RPG categories. Land of Eem, a lighthearted RPG that combines Lord of the Rings high fantasy with a Muppets-like whimsy created by Ben Costa and James Parks, won Roleplaying Game of the Year. Call of Cthulhu: The Stura of Pale Leaves – Twin Suns Rising, a Call of Cthulhu RPG adventure set in 1980s Japan, won the Roleplaying Game Supplement of the Year. The Sutra of Pale Leaves was written by Damon Lang, Yukihiro Terada, Andrew Logan Montgomery, Jason Sheets, Jesse Covner, with Keris McDonald and Mike Mason.
Non-RPG winners included The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship for Cooperative/Solo Game of the Year, Blood Bowl Third Season Edition for Miniatures Game of the Year, and Hot Streak for Party Game of the Year.
Notably, this year’s Origins Awards did not include a Fan Favorite award, which is typically handed out to a popular product at the show.
