Gen Con LLC Indy 2009: Press Release - 08/26/09

SEATTLE (August 26, 2009) - Gen Con Indy, the nation’s largest annual consumer fantasy, electronic, sci-fi and adventure game convention wraps up its 42nd year! This year, Gen Con Indy 2009 was attended by over 27,900 unique attendees, all of who converged on Indianapolis to make this year’s Gen Con a very successful event for gaming enthusiasts.

That's only 700 less than last year's record attendance. Not bad in this economy. :D

I think those 700 were all EN Worlders and CMer, too! :D

How many were at 2007? What kind of growth had then been having the past 6 years? There are a few ways the numbers can be looked at.

Dude, that's awesome. :)

Although the swag was seriously lean this year and there seemed to be a little less glitz overall, the crowds seemed about as large as I remembered from previous years. And now it's confirmed. Awesomeness.

I wonder if Gen Con assumed there would be less people and that's why they had less stuff in their swag bags.

I think I heard that there were less 4-day badges and more 1-days issued. Which makes sense in a down economy. To me, the days in the convention center still felt like GenCon, but at night in the city it just felt like Indianapolis.

I'm sure that had nothing to do with it and it was all about cost. Swag Bags at Gen Con and Origins have been getting less and then for a couple years now.
