4000 years after Yavin: help me create a new Star Wars setting idea

First Post
I'd like your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and changes to help me build my idea for a Star Wars RPG setting very similar in style to the Knights of the Old Republic and Tales of the Jedi era. The difference is those settings are 4000 years before the Battle of Yavin. This idea is to set the game in a time 4000 years After the Battle of Yavin, following a "dark ages" across the galaxy (similar to the way Fading Suns' setting works) as the PCs explore and rediscover the galaxy.

Here's my first attempt at this idea's "opening crawl"

Episode ??
A NEW BEGINNING

It is a period of darkness rescinding.
The first generation to achieve interstellar
travel since the ends of the LOST AGES has come
to a close.

Galactic ships, venturing out amid unfamiliar stars,
have begun to reestablish a select few ancient HYPERSPACE
BEACONS. The galactic databanks of the Ancient Republic Spacelane
Bureau were lost or compromised in the aftermath of the Yuuzhan Vong
invasion so long ago.

4,000 years past, one hundred planets were chosen for worldshaping.
Yuuzhan Vong Shapers, accompanied by Jedi, set to work, and at first the
results were wondrous to behold. But numerous Alliance member worlds, whose
populations still nursed bitter memories of the Vong invasion would soon see their
fears justified...

Following the The Sith-Imperial War the Vong's crusade to cleanse all that is of any
form of mechanical technology plunged the Galaxy into a time of great darkness. The Vong's
legacy poisoned each terra-formed world's databank systems. This quickly spread from world to
world corrupting any computer it could find. Thus the Lost Ages began, this tactic of SCORCHED-INTELLECT
brought about a galactic dark age. It would be 200 generations before worlds found ways to reconnect, to combat
this data-plague.

Emerging from the lushly forested opulent "core" world of Tatooine, the remnants of the Ancient Galactic Republic Alliance
have embarked on an ambitious new reclamation plan to restore hyperspace beacons, aspiring to reunify the galaxy lost.
Having long since reverted to a state similar to that of the Hundred-Year Darkness, always tight on supplies and struggling
to stay one step ahead of the data-plague, xenophobia, and pirates, you are excavators of the lost galaxy. Your goal...
to venture into the Unknown Regions to find a new hope. The force is but religious myth in this time of naive ignorance.

You are crusaders.
You are myth finders.
You are archeologists.
You are questing knights.

These are the new tales of the Jedi, the Knights of the Ancient Republic....

My thought would be that the PCs would at first be archeologists (think Raiders of the Lost Arc combined with Star Wars) that soon learn they are force sensitive. Becoming and reestabilshing not only the Hyperspace Lanes but also the Galactic Alliance/Empire and the Jedi Order...
And who knows what the bad guys are doing!! The Sith? The Empire? Any Alien race?

Any ideas for details or suggestions for background, settings, planets, ways to tie in other Star Wars materials and ideas for adventures would be great.

thanks

Seems like a great idea. I think SW works best when it feels very pulp era - and the Indiana Jones link certainly provides that option.

I had a similar idea, but rather than being a distant future setting it was a distant past setting instead. The whole reawakening of the force might fit in with some of the ideas I had for that setting.

My basic idea was that the force was new and not properly understood. There were no Jedi, Dark Jedi or Sith. The understanding of what led to the dark side, wnd what damage could be done by the dark side, was not fully undestood. As such as the game would develop players and their NPC friends could become more and more tainted by the dark side, perhaps search for redemption or ways to control the force so that the dark side doesn't consume them.

Important to the premise of my game was that there were different ways to "manage" dark side corruption, with different factions prefering different methods. Some completely avoid anything that might lead them towards the dakside, others embrace it, some follow alternative strict ethical codes that allow them to use the dark side without losing their minds, others have developed techniques to flush their dark side taint away. I'm sure there could be more ideas if you sat down and thought about it a bit longer.

I've not got Saga, so I don't know whether Dark Side corruption systems work well for this idea. I was quite a big WW player when I had this idea and was going to use the taint rules from Aberrant alongside modified psi powers from Trinity to represent force powers. I've not got D20 Aberrant so I don't know how well the taint rules work in that, but it might make a good starting point if you want to take this idea forward.

Cheerio,

Ben
