(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Urgan

Urgan made his way back toward Greenpeak. He was dejected, miserable, when he came upon Corrah, who was scouting. The halfling had showed him the trail he was following - it was one of her secret ways that kept her from being spotted by the Watchtower, and she had not expected anyone to be on it. Her eyes went wide and she reached for her sword before she realized it was Urgan.

Then she bowed her head and shook, saying softly, "Oh, no! You lost, didn't you? I can see it on your face, you did. Do you have a 'stone to report with? No? We'll have to let Imani know, the hard way."

She dared not ask about the fate of the others. She knew too well what it could be like, having lost her own brother on an earlier expedition into the mountain.

Merrick

Merrick nods back and heads down the left passage

Edit:

Merrick nods back to the Mercenary,

“Intruders retreated towards the kobolds, the boss told us to go through the teleporter to head them off. Let’s go. ”

He makes a beckoning motion and then heads back down the hallway

The mercenary looked around nervously, afraid to abandon his post at the door. He began to reach for the door's iron latch, about to open it.

OOC: @TaranTheWanderer gimme a persuasion check if you want him to come now. He's just trying to replace himself with another guard for the door, but any additional merc is another chance someone wonders who you are. dc15+ will have him come right away. dc10+ will have him call through the door first. dc9- might make him suspicious.

Merrick

“Let’s go! You think the Boss will be happy if we take too long and miss them? He’s not exactly in a forgiving mood right now.”

Merrick doesn’t wait for the answer, he starts to move back down the hall.

OOC:
Persuasion/intimidate: 1D20 = [14] = 14

I just miss a persuasion but I feel like intimidate is more the approach Merrick would use. That would be a 17, if you’ll accept that.

"We did. I did," sighs Urgan, feeling broken. "Merrick may still be alive; I don't know. He hid, but I... I was just...". The orc's voice trails off. "There were so many of them."

"I don't have a stone; I could perhaps send a messenger if need be, but I have no guarantee that it would get through." He re-summons Scamp in anticipation, who stretches his throat as he takes a deep breath in. Urgan scritches it behind its ears. A gutteral roll, almost below the level of vocalisation but still audible, emerges from the Hyena, as it tears into a piece of dried meat Urgan offers it.

Merrick

The Alchemist hissed "Ssssh!

And he gave the two mercenaries a withering look, as if their conversation could upset the volatility of his experiment. He waved at them absently, as if he didn't care what they did, as long as they left off bothering him.

The mercenary hesitated, his hand at the door, before nodding agreement (it was never smart to annoy The Beast, even if his orders contradicted ones that he had made earlier, such was his prerogative. The mercenary came along and when they were far enough to not bother the Alchemist, he said to Merrick, when he noticed that there was no-one around in the Scrying room, "Have you used it before? I haven't. I ain't ashamed to say: I don't think it's safe without cultist or wizard who knows how to do it."

TEAM FALLEN- SUBJECT:SHADE-9 - all along the rock tower

Pushing through the churning current and the overhanging pall of fog, Shade-9 soon located the Northman. Loklafd kicking at the surface of the water and gasping for air.

[TARGET ACQUIRED: [SUBJECT:LOKLAFD]
Life Signs: Positive, Conscious and Active Mobility: Compromised (Loss of Prosthetic Limb)
Environmental Hazard: Current Velocity Increasing - Large Rock Formation Ahead
Priority Response: Intercept [Subject:Loklafd], Stabilize. Prevent Secondary Impact
]

Without hesitation, the warforged adjusted his course, driving through the current to reach the struggling human, positioning himself so that he would be able to both hold on to Loklafd and grab the tower of black rock before the pair were hurled against it or swept passed.

"there must be some way out of here" said the joker to the northern chief "theres so much confusion, got to get us some relief." Shade-9 shuddered as a strange rhythmic sensation danced through him, then quickly dissipated as his systems refocused "if we can secure purchase on the rock, we may be able to climb higher out of this water"

securing his hold on the man, Shade-9 kicked out, aiming to where the current swept all along the rock tower..

:)

Saphirrion locates the missing pair and lightly touches the old guide, imparting wisdom of the ages to the man.

He follows in the air, assisting with his meager strength with holding the man above water and pushing and pulling to help avoid the rocks.
OOC: Giving guidance to Athletics checks (for swimming or avoiding the rocks). If there is a critical situation he uses burst of ingenuity to give additional +2 to an ability check or saving throw

Merrick

They stand in front of the ‘porter,

“Huh. Wait here”

He quickly searches the head cleric hoping to find some kind of key then moves back to the device.

“Let’s go, we’ve wasted enough time.”

Fate seemed to be pushing him towards using this accursed device and who was he to rail against fate.

Team Fallen

Holding Lolklafd, Shade-9 moved with cool purpose to the tower of black rock. A thick haze hung over the water as it rushed past, and Locklafd was able to climb out, with the help of Saphirrion, and held onto the rock.

Though it was difficult to make out the high cliff-like banks of the river, it was clear to Shade-9 that they found themselves at an 'island".

Loklafd's prosthetic leg had come off, and he asked Saphirrion to find it. It would float, he said, but his human eyes could see nothing through the haze and near total darkness.
