@FitzTheRuke, fyi, Aywin is levitating, not flying, but let's assume invisible Svetlana helped guide him to tie the rope so you don't need to change your post
After securing the rope, Aywin holds his pike and surveys the area. He telepathically asks Svetlana: My dear, could you please survey the surroundings?
Shade-9 pulled himself up the black rock spire and out from the toxic mist, where the remainder of the team was gathering in the false safety of Copper's torchlight.
The Warforged Infiltrator observed their descent without comment, though it was not a flawless enterprise and at one point Lorent briefly disappeared into the darkness before reappearing again on the rope.
As they assembled, he focussed on Copper's question regarding the beckoning maw of the ominous cave which required a more substantial response.
"our primary mission objective is there" Shade-9 replied plainly, his answer methodical and deliberate, then continuing on to explain his encounter with three entities of the black stone: Ogremoch, Dretchroyaster and Chomylla, Lore-Weaver of Uvaren.
"Chomylla claimed her Staff is close, via that entrance - However Dretchroyaster is also there and is aware of our presence. Chomylla is attempting to occupy the dragon's attention. [confidence in the validity of her direction is approaching 70%]"
Shade-9's gaze moved from Copper towards the cavern mouth and the faint illumination beyond.
"We should assume that our arrival is no longer covert - Destchroyaster will send hostile opposition."
[STEALTH PROTOCOLS: ACTIVE [MISSION OBJECTIVE: Recover Staff of Chomylla]
[Critical Task: Locate Detchroaster][Expect Hostile Opposition]]
His optics then shifted towards Bill as the weasel scampered ahead to investigate.
"Beware the water and the toxic fog, but we should not waste the advantage Chomylla's distraction has provided."
It's about 50 feet above the water, which flows quickly eastward and is shrouded in poisonous mists. The top of the spire of rock is about 60 feet up, which is close to the cave mouth, though about 20 feet away. Someone might be able to jump it, but it's not exactly easy to get that 10 foot running start from a perch on top of the rock. If someone wants to make an attempt, I suppose I'd like to see it's spectacular success or failure...
we can have one of the flying familiars bring you the end of the rope once everyone is down (I think we all made it?). Then you can swing over Tarzan style.
Once we're all on the ledge, we can get Svetlana to go up, get the other end of the rope, come back down and tie the rope. I'd appreciate a map if possible bc I'm not sure about the details of the terrain.
One by one they made their way across the rope to the rocky spire. Svetlana was able to carry the other end of the rope from there to the cave mouth, but was unable to secure it beyond wrapping it around a pillar made from where a stalactite met a stalagmite.
OOC:
Weird. I had posted a map, but I can't seem to find it. Here it is again: Technically, the three climbers are not on the rope at once, and they'll all make their way across, but you get the gist.
(Notes: 1) Upper Ledge. 2) Rocky Spire (top is 100ft down). 3) River in mist (50 more feet down) flows left-to-right. 4) Cave mouth (10ft down from top of spire). Copper's torch light shown.
Aywin, floating next to the cliff, maneuvers towards Svetlana, to secure the rope she tied. He keeps an eye on his companions climbing on the rope, ready to use his elemental magic should any of them fall, although he doen't know how they would fare in the toxic mist.
He telepathically asks Svetlana My dear, would you be so kind and go further inside the cave and let me know what you see
