Team Fusion, Shade-9

Shade-9 studied the stone-faced men and their ritual, with all his sensors at maximum sensitivity. He concluded that they were using magical energy that was produced by their platforms, and the sigils thereupon, and converting it to a form of raw magical energy that they then directed downward into the crevice - toward the dark unknown. Flashes in the light of the energy revealed to him a sloping pathway along the far edge of the gorge. Treacherous but navigable if a man-sized creature wished to climb down into the gorge. Dangerous with the magical energy, and well withing the sight-lines of the casters.

He turned his attention to the archway, but there appeared no way to remove the veil, other than to destroy the archway itself, where the stonework held the arcane runes that supported the veil, carved into the surface. An explosion or several strikes with a pickaxe would probably do the trick, but it was likely that the necrotic magic would flare with its collapse, likely killing anyone holding the pickaxe, and no likelihood of success without several blows. And, unless the stone-faced men were utterly engrossed with their work, they would certainly be alerted.

He was certain that he would survive moving back through the veil, though it was likely to cause his pain sensors to activate.

OOC: I found a moment. Give me a CON Save if you move back through the veil. Otherwise, I suppose you could attempt the little ledge going downward, with an Athetics check (auto-success with a Climb speed) I get that it's tempting.

Team Caves

Merrick was badly scratched and bitten by several small skeletal dragons as he lunged with his glaive at the cult priest whose spell controlled them. The man screeched with fanatical zeal and began to cast another spell, but Torhak slipped invisibly away from the nearby cultists and appeared behind him, stabbing him in the back with his short sword. The dragons flocked to him, biting and scratching before crumbling to dust as their master collapsed to the ground, mortally wounded.

By the time his body hit the stone floor, Merrick had retreated, following Urgan, Scamp, and Ironthorn. Urgan had had a glimpse down the vault corridor between the cultists and the caves, but he thought better of retreating that way. All he could make out were two rows of terracotta-like statues, and he didn't like the look of them. They were perfectly stationed to hide traps, or worse: Bard's tales told of statues such as this that could animate. The last thing that they needed now was more enemies to fight.

Instead, Urgan darted back toward the caves, and the large cavern where Ironthorn's "father" and "uncles" had died, petrified. He slowed by the once-stagnant pool that not long ago, Shamal had blessed into pure drinking water. Where was Shamal?

Shamal had hesitated, loathe to leave Torhak behind, and the dwarf was in trouble. He was pulling his sword free of the dead priest when a group of screaming cultists burst into the vault, their faces twisted in zealous rage and magically enhanced. As a group, they exhaled a poisonous cloud. Torhak and Shamal were caught in it, choking. As Shamal turned to run, he was struck from behind by a mercenary's crossbow bolt, and he fell.

As Torhak tried to reach him, and follow his retreating comrades, he too was struck, this time by a burst of fire sent by yet another cultist.

OOC: Shamal & Torhak take 15 poison from "Dragon Breath" spell. dc12 CON Save for 1/2. Shamal took 9 from a crossbow. Shamal is down with 2 failed Death Saves. Lastly, Torhak took 11 Fire. I don't think he's likely to still be up, but I'll leave it to @MetaVoid to confirm. I guess the poison might only do 3 to him, if he makes his save, right?

Shade-9 lingered only a moment longer, silent in the watchful darkness as the chamber hummed and the four figures poured energy into the unseen throat of the mountain. Curiosity would draw him to the ledge and thence downwards, but his task priority had been to investigate and secure the room.

So with visual confirmation the stone-masked occupants were preoccupied with their assigned task, Shade-9 made the choice to return through the veil and report what he had seen for group determination....

hearing his allies fall, Merrick gestures towards the direction of the kobold’s cave.

“To the kobolds we go!”

He runs but, instead of following Urgan, he stops at the pool and quietly lowers himself into the dark water,

With a look to Urgan that says,

Draw them away

He takes a deep breath before fully submerging himself into the water.

@Kobold Stew
If you want to drop an illusion to help me or the plant hide, we can try to stabilize Shamal if you can draw the cultists away.

Merrick can hold his breath for 16 rounds.
The little tree might want to stay back and help shamal too. Idk. The Paladin saved and purified the pool after all.

Torhak weathers the poisonous fumes in a typical dwarven fashion...stoically. But then come the flames and he wavers...and finally falls. He was too focused on the fallen paladin, otherwise his natural dexterity would maybe carry him out of the fumes enough for his resistance to save him, but alas, he falls over Shamal.

Poison save: 2D20.HIGH(1)+2 = [2, 8] = 10
OOC: Great :( 7damage, coyote.code, why have you forsaken me
Also, that's what you get when you don't take Absorb energy spell :)

Team Fusion - Svetlana.

Invisible, Svetlana observed the man and woman in the northern cavern for a few moments before flying eastward to investigate what appeared to be the hull of a wooden ship, on its side and half-buried in the mountain. It seemed that there had been some workers excavating it, and they had pierced the hull with a small hole, made to go inside.

In the cavern outside, there were piles of strange crystals, and she did not like it when they began to glow when she came near them, as if they would reveal her position.

Then she heard the sound of shouting as it echoed up from a tunnel to the east. It was somewhat far away, but it sounded like a battle.

(General Features) 1) Man & Woman (he has a torch). 2) Bodies & Crystals. 3) Ship's Hull. 4) Downward-sloping Tunnel (shouting down there). 5) Back toward Team Fusion.

Team Fusion

Shade-9 stepped back out through the necrotic veil. His pain sensors ignited and for a brief moment he could not hide it from the others as he seized and shuddered. But one by one the sensors calmed and he stood ready to report, if more tarnished and worn-looking than he had been before.

OOC: Shade-9 took another 11 from the veil. Here's where everyone is at:

(General Features) 1) Upward toward Svetlana, torchlight. 2) "Bottomless" Gorge. 3) Necrotic Veil.
