(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Urgan

The team that had entered the Caves was a team no longer. With Shamal and Torhak almost certainly dead, and Merrick left behind hiding in a pool, Urgan fled up the steep slope to the Kobold Lair.

The kobolds were not happy that he had brought trouble their way, their shaky peace with the cult was ruined, and the group's promise to drive them out appeared to be defeated. But ill-treated kobolds had been returned, and Urgan had a part in that. He wasn't seen as an enemy - more of a nuisance, and the Kobolds guarding the tunnel waved him past as the cultists pursuing him met their traps. The guards added a volley of sling-stones to that, and one of the cultists fell before the others retreated.

 Merrick

Merrick hid in the shadows where the cavern met the stonework of the Vaults. The mercenary Captain, Bardaby was human, and he held no lights of his own. He simply followed the cultists' torchlight while holding his very heavy crossbow ahead of himself. It made him very dangerous, but in this case, it caused him to miss spotting Merrick as he went by.

Merrick took the opportunity to slip back into the Trophy Vault, where he found Torhak and Shamal, lying among the bodies of a few fallen cultists.

OOC: That's more than a couple of rounds, so let's fall out of rounds for now. Urgan will be taken to Chief Urbone if he doesn't protest. Merrick has a few minutes while the Cultists search other areas before they will start to return.

 

[VLAD the Destroyer]

Darius watches the others plunge into the darkness of the ravine. He is stunned into silence for a second before the flickering of approaching torchlight draws his attention. He moves into the shadows and then sends a telepathic warning to the allies near him.

There is torchlight approaching be ready. We may have company.

It was impossible for Darius to hear anything clearly over the sound of the waterfall, but he was almost sure that he could hear raised voices echoing from the tunnel above. The torchlight dimly lit the twisting passage, but for the moment, it didn't seem to be coming closer.

Team Fusion - Bjorn

Bjorn acknowledge Darius's warning with a grunt as he glance up toward the tunnel. He then turned his attention back towards the gorge in time to see Aywin emerge.

Bjorn knew though that Shade and Loklafd were still somewhere in the abyss. Leveraging the telepathic link, he directed his communication to Aywin:

Aywin, any sign of the others down there? How deep is the hole?

He maintained his concentration on the moonbeam, ready to move it towards the tunnel entrance beyond Darius if necessary.

OOC: Although not shown on the map, Bjorn is next to Darius at AN11. He should have 5 rounds left on the moonbeam spell.

OOC: Just a sanity check: Aywin wasnt close to the others, right @FitzTheRuke? My understanting was that the waterfall was different than the hole the Shade9 and Lokfald fell in. All of Aywin's actions assumed he was at a different location - he wpuld never have left them alone if they were near by.

OOC: He may not have seen them (it is both dark and foggy with mists) but they were nearby, having also fallen into the same gorge).

Merrick moves towards his fallen comrades but he's too late to save them. Anger bubbles up inside but there is nothing he can do now. He feels through their belongings, looking for anything that will help him and the rest of the group survive: potions, healing packs.

He takes Torhak's bow and Shamal's two curved swords as well as his Khanjar from around his neck.

[Kobold Stew]

Urgan, safe among the murderous kobolds, agrees to be taken either to Urborne, and he half expects to not be granted an audience and to be unceremoniously expelled from the caves entirely.

OOC: What? Where'd he go? (I had to look all over my map to find him. It seems when I turned him back from a frog, his Dwarf Icon fell down a layer). He's there now.

Shade-9

In spite of the darkness, water, and the strange, foul-smelling fog, Shade-9 was able to locate Loklafd kicking with his one good leg at the surface and gasping. The current was strong, and it began to carry them toward a large, towering "island" of black rock.
