Ironically enough, I find myself in the market for a new monster book for my 5.5 game. Now, I play on Fantasy Grounds, so, I need something that is available on there. At the moment, pretty much all the monster books for D&D on Fantasy Grounds are for 5e and have not been updated to the new stat blocks or the new monster manual styles.
So, I'm in a bit of a bind. Yes, I know I could go out and buy a new monster book (like Dragonix's Monster Manual Expanded - which looks excellent) but, I also know that it's not really meant for 5.5. There are bits and bobs that are carry overs. Nothing that would make the game unplayable, but, kind of a proud nail. Weapon resistances, for example, have changed quite a lot between 5e and 2024 5e. And, I'm thinking to the future. I want a nice big juicy monster book that I'm going to use going forward for several years.
So, I've really been kinda turning up my nose at the 5e monster books on offer. I know they're great books. I own four or five 5e monster books already. Kobold Press' Tome of Beasts (1, 2 and 3), and a few others here and there.
But, I want a book that is built for 2024 D&D.
It's really rather sparse on the ground at the moment.
