D&D General A D&D Edition Grand Tour

Depending on how well-versed you players are in D&D's history, I would let them choose. Also, I would run it backwards instead of forward: 5.5, 5, 4, 3.5, 3, etc. You don't have to run the entire adventure, just part of it. I think you tie it together based on the character's backgrounds. Once the adventures have been chosen, just have each player write how their background connects to the module they chose. For example, Gary chose Rime of the Frostmaiden for 5th edition. His PC's backstory would connect with that. Then, prior to the campaign state clearly they are all trying to help one another.

I'd be tempted to run it as a ttrpg version of an Arabian Nights-esque frame story - ttrpgs played within ttrpgs. The characters return from their adventure (in 5e), and while hanging out at the tavern, some guys at a table are playing a strange dice game (4E). The PCs sit down with the DM avatar, and start playing their 4E adventure in 5e land. At the end of the 4e adventure, they walk into a tavern to spend their winnings, and some weirdos are playing a dice game (3e). The players sit down...

EDIT: maybe for some "optional" games off the main "branch" of DnD editions, like Pathfinder or Tunnels and Trolls etc., these are being played by a group of goblins in the dungeon or something

I am getting very close to doing this for my fall "con campaign" -- but that means a single 4 hour session per edition, and only 4 such editions. That latter bit sadly means I will cut 1E and 4E: B/X, 2E, 3E and 5E, at (i think) 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th level respectively.
In. 😅

Sad-not-sad that 4E misses the cut. I'd love to play a session of it, but I won't regret missing out on other players not knowing how to play it quickly and well. ;)
