Adventure Time TTRPG Drops "Yes And" System, Switches To 5E

Changed made based on feedback from fans.

When the Adventure Time roleplaying game was announced back in June, it was going to be using a brand new RPG system called the "Yes And" system, which involved dice which had Yes and No on one die, and things like And or But on the other.

However, publisher Cryptozoic Entertainment has recently indicated that, following fan feedback, the upcoming Kickstarter will now be powered by 5E instead. The update was included last week as part of the FAQ in its current Adventure Time card game Kickstarter.

Has Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game changed since you announced it a few months ago?

Yes, we made the decision to make it a 5e experience, based on feedback from fans. That doesn’t mean the game shown at Gen Con earlier this year won’t be released too, but the main offering in the upcoming Kickstarter will be the 5e RPG.

I had such a great time with the Demo at GenCon so many years ago. With the Yes And system…….
I think I still have all my notes from back then. If you have anything you can remember about the game and post it we might be able to recreate it, at least in part.

Man, I had completely forgotten about this game. The previous system looked interesting. I wonder if 5.5E made them do a redesign? I think it has been in production since before the switch (and correct me if I'm wrong, please).

It's been in development since before the 5.5 switch was even announced, which presumably lessens the market value of switching to 5E.

Yeah, this one is in Dev... Nightosphere, now. Hope it makes it out, eventually. Maybe with a Fionna & Cake supplement?
They've announced two more spin-offs in the past month -- Side Quests and the Marceline & Bubblegum series.

Getting even the digital version of this game out the door seems like a very, very good idea. If there's a revenue issue, getting new digital sales could help them get across the finish line.

This is a perfect example of why I don't bother with Kickstarters, LOL. I just wait for the game to get released to the shelves and then decide if I want to buy it, rather than play the interminable waiting game.

But then you haven’t contributed towards creating the possibility of the ‘thing’, AND you’ll miss out on all the ‘highs & lows’ of the development journey!

It can be a real (and for some Neverwinter ending) rollercoaster! 🎢
