D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

No way to be certain how much sales of books have dropped because people are going electronic, although it wouldn't surprise me at all that sales peaked during COVID.

Probably indicates 5.5 selling 100-200k a year if Amazon is 25-35% of the market.

Not peak 5 sales but peak 5E was 2019 or covid.
I don’t know about peak, but this thread started in July 2022. Check the first few posts. PHB is #42 of all books sold on Amazon. Radiant Citadel is #845, so better than the 2024 PHB is doing now.

Hardback sales through beyond might account for some of this, but it’s a truly vast difference. Vast.

One of the outgoing producers suggested that 60% of book revenue is now from Beyond.
The difference is so vast that D&D is making Hasbro more money now than they did then, by at least a hundred million.

Specifically compared to 22 or 23?

Of course the beauty of Beyond is that they make money from 5.0 and 5.5.

Given the percentage of sales Beyond has at this point per Hasbro folks, it probably accounts for more than this difference.

Those positions lack hard numbers though so essentially meaningless.

Years ago I said 5E coukd become tge biggest selling Edison ever by consistently selling a few hundred a day. Ex Amazon employee said something similar.

Adds up to tens of not hundreds of thousands per year Amazon only. Throw in other sources of sales and yeah.

60% digital as long as revenue is consistent with what WotC is reporting.....

I am sure beyond is doing well. But that 60% is a relative share. If sales from other channels fall, that % goes up. Sales on Amazon seem to have collapsed. Also makes you wonder about roll20 and other outlets where DnD is sold.

It’s at 1222 right now.
That rank will probably jump around a few hundred a bunch.

I’m not sure “collapsed” is quite the right characterization. That’s out of all books on Amazon US. For any book that’s still pretty good, two plus years out. Still not sub 100, yea.
