Angel 3/3/4

Wow. I wasn't expecting it to end as it did. This definitely felt like a big transition episode. Great stuff. I wonder what we have to look forward to next (other than a month or two of reruns:( ).

See, now I found it a big cop out. Last episode got me all wound up, and this one just fizzled. Big lead in, teasers about Willow, a whole lot of potential, and it just ended with a big old wet raspberry. She wants to learn to be human? What, Fred as evilnocchio? All that leather is seriously going to waste.

Unexpected yes, but is that necessarily a bad thing? How many "big bad" storylines can there be? I think that this episode is the first time I got the feeling that the series is truly coming to an end.

Spoilers, of course

Joss is an evil, evil man.

I want to see the next episode.... NOW!!!!!

Cause now my mind is going into overdrive trying to figure out what will happen next and what Wesley is thinking and doing.

Illyria really did feel like a big bad, but we'll see.

Wes got to kill Knox, which was good. Rather liked his timing.

Very good ep.

Though it seems a bit obvious, could you edit the title of the thread to include the term [spoilers]?

It's certainly a twist on what I expected from a Great Old One, and it will be odd to see how people react. I thought it was too set up for preachiness, though, with Fred/Ilyria asking, "You'd even fight to save him?" Sure, the Old One might be curious, but would she really care?

Ilyria must be a rogue or a barbarian. She was flanked, yet she kept her Dex bonus to AC.

Actually, I missed the first 15 minutes. Could someone run down what happened in the beginning?

I don't recall perfectly, but didn't they specifically say someone from Buffy would be on?

Does the phone call with Giles really COUNT like that?

Overall, not much of an ep. I like Illyria better than Fred, but the introduction isn't great IMO.

I wonder if next ep, they just won't mention anything from this ep? and it'll just be a random Angel/Spike fight a monster type ep?
:)

The Old One's seem evil by context of being Demon's only. I think someone last ep mentioned that Illyria was a well loved Old One Lord.

If they were really Great Old Ones, then she would be more powerful, and probably wouldn't have even noticed humanity.

Though, her phrasing of Wolf, Ram & Hart, reminded me of the Lorne dimension, where they found Fred in the first place. This season is supposed to link up with the past arcs or something, so I wonder if there's something there.

You didn't really miss much, just Wes trying to knock her head off. Some covering by Gunn in regard to his signing. (which, I don't really feel should have been as strong, but ah well.)

I hope you don't mind, Red Spire, if I edited in the word "spoilers."

I didn't feel a cop out, but more of a serious shift in this episode. I don't think the issue of Illyria is cut and dried - Wes is using Him/Her/It, and I think Illyria is using him. Someone's gonna chop someone's head off before the end, I think.

"I don't remember 'stab Gunn' being on the agenda this morning!" - Angel.

Gunn has got a LOT to live with. He has the kind of burden that Wesley carried - but even Angel took the pillow away, damn it. Wes is just damn MEAN, and I think Alexis Denisof had a shining moment tonight. Wesley would kill for Fred, and he would kill without her, too. Nice to know.

"I have a Master's degree in destroying things!" - Harmony
"Truer words were never spoken" - Spike

I also think there was a BIG transition for Harmony tonight. Maybe too big - she's grown a lot since we saw Harm's way. Or maybe what we saw came to fruition. She was still Harmony, but with a sense of purpose that "Harm the secretary" hasn't had.

"Her soul was consumed in the fires of resurrection." -The Mad Doctor

Alas, poor Fred. We knew her - and I loved that little character. I'm sorry the character is gone, and hopeful that we get to see some more of Amy Acker as Illyria, if nothing else to see her in a different role.

I think the end tribute to Fred was a bit too sappy, As I would have preferred it to end on something else. Gunn leaving, or Angel leaving flowers at a memorial, etc. - Something not quite as sappy as Shiny Fred driving to LA - and her doom.

"Well can we drag her Astral back to LA?" - Angel

I also think the reift between the Scoobies and Angel is an interesting point - it's quite clear that as long as Angel controls W&H, he is dead to the Scoobies. It's kinda sad to see, but in a way I don't blame them. The team knows they've changed - the question is when are they giving it up? If they actually do?

Well, the March Boring season of repeats is here, so on the plus side, I can get more work done. :)
